Need Help With Palm Treo 650 Please!

I bought my son a used Palm Treo 650 after his was stolen at school. It is going into sleep mode every 3 min. which I am told is normal but it won't ring if someone tries to call it while it's in sleep mode. It goes directly to voicemail. I was told to try a soft reset first. I did it and it didn't help. I was told to do a hard reset next if the soft reset didn't work. Then add the programs back on one at a time. How do I do a hard reset and how do I add the programs back on one at a time? also, how do I know if I am adding the original problem back on? I know nothing about these and could really use some help. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can find instructions for performing the various resets here. Has your son installed any 3rd-party programs, or is he just using the basic software that came loaded on the phone? If the latter, you don't need to reinstall them, as they're stored in ROM on the phone and will survive a hard reset.
Also, you should be aware that he will lose all of his PIM data (calendar, contacts, memos) unless he has been syncing with a PC.

I purchased the phone used for him. He had his Juke stolen at school. I don't know what the other person put on this phone. He's only had the phone a week and it came with no manual so I have no idea what the previous owner did with it or put on it. What would you do in this instance? THanks again

Before you do the hard reset, download and install Palm Desktop from here. This will allow your son to sync his PIM data to a PC so it isn't lost. Then go ahead and go the link I posted above and follow the instructions for the hard reset, and see if the phone (radio) is still turning off.
