Default need help with treo 650

Heres my problem, my sister had broken her treo's screen while dropping it. Then we took it to a repair shop and they said they will give us a new phone if we can get the data off the broken one. So, my sister says she doesn't have the installation cd and sync'ing cable. So, i went out and bought a usb sync and charge cable from some thrid party. Then i downloaded the software from palm and it asks me to push the hotsync button to sync the treo but the sync cable that i bought doesn't have one. Is there anyway around this?

If you just want to clear the information off your phone do a hard reset.

To hot sync scroll through your apps and find hot sync (with the cable connected). Once you select it under the icon select cable/cradle then press the icon.

Thanks for your reply, but i'm trying to get all the info from the broken phone to my computer so we can transfer it all into the new phone.

And i won't be able to scroll through apps because the screen is broken, if anyone has a screen shot of the apps menu that would help me.

If your screen is dead you will need to get a cable (borrow/steal) with a start button on it.

If your screen is visible you can push the apps button between the green phone and the 5 way nav. That will show you screens of apps. Keep pushing until you see system and hot sync should be there. You can use the 5 way button to get tthrough to where you hot sync.

Have you synced before and when? You will only lose info since your last sync. If you have backup to your card you are OK also. I guess you don't or you would not be scrambling to sync.

This is my sister's phone and i highly doubt that she has ever sync'ed before. And this is my first time working with a palm device. I was thinking i might be able to navigate through the menus by looking at screenshots but now it seems impossible because the treo wont seem to stay on longer then 5 seconds. The only way i can keep it to stay on is by removing the battery and putting it back in but then it only stays on for 2 minutes. I guess i'm going to have to buy a new cable with a button on it. Are there any retailers that carry the hotsync cable with the button on it? I've already tried the sprint store and compusa. Thank you

okay, i got the new data cable with the hotsync button on it. And i think that the treo is syncing right but when i go to the palm desktop software there is nothing there. Is it possible, that since this is my first time syncing the treo, that it will erase all the data from the phone?

Is the treo set up to sync with outlook or the palm desktop? I sync with outlook and the only thing in palm is the pics under media on my version. You might check to see if your contacts are in outlook from your palm. Check your hot sync log on treo or palm desktop and it will show you what was ok. Palm desktop needs to be active on your task bar.

Also in palm desktop under hotsync manager check the setting to see what it is syncing.

You might do a soft reset to get your treo to stay on. Open the battery case and use your stylus to push in the little button. The treo screen does go to sleep after a minute or so. To get it to activate hold down the green phone button for a few seconds. (if you know this stuff sorry for the basics)

This may seem basic, but make sure that Hot Sync is running in the taskbar before syncing. Also, right click on the hot sync icon in the taskbar, select Custom and the settings should be "Handheld Overwrites Desktop" for the first sync.

If you aren't familiar with the Palm Treo, after waking up the screen, you have to press the center navigation button within a couple of seconds to unlock the keyguard and then the screen will stay on for two minutes or so. If there is no activity it will go back to sleep and be dark again.
