Default Network data connection - Leave on?

With Verizon and Treo 650, after I use Snappermail, Xiino, or Mobitv, if I don't force a disconnection with data network, the phone seems to operate normally with voice calls.
Does anyone know if I need to disconnect, or is there any harm in staying connected? Does it affect any other operation of phone?
    I also have unlimited data.

I don't disconnect either and it seems okay. I thing it might be mainly for CDMA users who must use one at a time.

Do you know if there's a way to disconnect without going to Snappermail or another app to disconnect? MobiTV leaves it connected even after you leave the app.

You can go to Prefs-Network and then on the bottom of that screen you can hit disconnect.

I use NetPrefs, which is a nice small freeware that allows you to get to the Network panel in preferences easily. Its also useful if you have different types of connections you need to manage.
