Smile new member that need help from everyone!!!!

My treo 650 is arriving tomorrow and i want all my info be tranferred from my visor pro to the treo without messing it up. I heard different procedures. but once and for all i wanna know from all of you who have done it to give me a concrete step by step procedures how to do it. some say remove the old software that comes with the visor pro and install the treo software then just sinc it and there will be no problem. im still going to use my visor pro for professional use and treo 650 for personal use. Plsss treo 650 veteran users help me.. a confused one...thanks

Although your using a Visor, my recommendation would be to follow Palm's guideline for upgrading to a Treo 650 from a Palm device.

p.s. - Congrats on the new Treo 650!

I recommend having two seperate user names for each device.
Also, delete the previous version of Palm Desktop that you have when your 650 comes in.
If you need to install addys and items like that from your visor pro, then I recommed beaming them over or doing a backup database in Palm desktop (if you are using that, if using Outlook then you dont need to do anything) and then after teh new version of Palm Desktop is installed, import the addys and other information in there and you would be fine.

Please note, you cannot use the older versino of Palm Desktop because the PIM apps are different and have different fields. Trying to do so will be a pain more than a pleasure for ya.

The following steps should give you the safest and cleanest fresh start with your new Treo:
    1. Find your computer's Palm/users folder, drag it to your desktop, and rename it "old stuff"
    2. Uninstall all traces of Palm Desktop from your computer and reinstall the latest version (that came with your Treo)
    3. Buy BackupBuddy VFS (worth every cent) and install it with your first HotSync, during which you will name your Treo.
    4. Launch BackupBuddy VFS and backup your Treo (yes, you're backing up nothing, but you're also installing BackupBuddy VFS on the card)
    5. Set up identical categories in datebook, tasks, contacts & memos and BEAM your data from the Visor to the Treo category by category in each application. It may sound drastic, but it ensures that your new Treo receives data the way it wants. i.e. you'll be adding data to the Treo's DB files rather than overwriting them with the Visor's older DB files. It's the cleanest way to start fresh.
    6. Check to be sure your critical data is in your Treo, and then use BackupBuddy again to backup to the card. This is your safety net.
    7. HotSync again, making sure to set EVERY conduit to overwrite from Treo to desktop.
    8. Make sure your critical data is now also on your computer.
    9. Make sure you have the latest versions of any needed third party apps on your computer. Check Treo 650 compatibility.
    10. Install those apps with a third HotSync. Make sure the conduits are set back to "synchronize" if they didn't default back that way after your first HotSync.
    11. If possible (and it often is) beam any third party databases from your Visor to your Treo. If you can't, then find each database in your "old stuff" folder and manually HotSync it to your Treo.
    12. You're done. And there's no trace of your Visor on your Treo. This is what I did going from a Clie to a Treo 650 and it was flawless. A little tedious perhaps, but safest imo. Good luck & congratulations!
