Default New Palm Treo 650 User

A few questions I have. I have been reading for about 2 days, I work alot so I do not have much time to research.

First, If I want personal ring tones I need an SD card?
Also if so or not, which type of media files does the phone take?
Also are there any apps that are free or is there somewhere I can get apps for my phone, I mean I paid alot of money for the phone and I have to pay even more for aps to get my phone to setup custom ringtones that other phones just get when you buy them?
Also, can I somehow get trillian or any other chat apps on my phone?
I need to find a few sites that have some nice apps for the treo.

A few other questions but more focues on apps and ringtones for now.

To use wavs or MP3's, as ringtones, you typically need to have a SD card and a third party program. Some good ones are RingoPro, mRing, and Call Filter. I recently heard of a free app that will take your mps's and convert them to tones, and put them in your ROM. Neat, but the tones then use lots of memory (Mini Tones).

As far as chat programs, I don't know of Trillian for the Treo, but Verichat is a very good multi-service, always on chat program which can use either your data service or SMS. Mundu is another some folks use and I know there are a few more.

Browse the softward area of Everything Treo- nearly everything has a good free trial period so you can see if the program is what you want.

Good luck with your new toy!

You can download load ringtones from the web directly to your treo. I have used 3gforfree.com and there was no charge if I accessed the site from the phone. From a computer there is a low month (ly) fee. You can put your ringtones on the treo without a card. They are usually fairly small files not like a whole song and do not take up alot of room.

IM+ is a very good Trillian like chat program. It has profiles for googletalk, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AOL, and Jabber. All can be open and on at the same time. There are other options but IM+ seems to offer the most for the $$$ Its stable on my Palm 650, as long as I shut down my Chatter IMAP accounts before I launch it

    Informative Freeware/Shareware

Browse the ET or Palm sites for this and you will find some. You could also "google." CAUTION: Make sure that they are from reputable sites to avoid something you would not wish to adversely affect/infect either your PC or Treo. Also, be careful to avoid any copyright infringements.
