Default New SD Card, New Treo 650

Ok, I just picked up a 650 from Sprint, it has the 1.13a-SPNT software rev. All excited, I checked the Palm web site and found that 2G was the largest SD card so I bought myself a Corsair 2G 133x card. I'm thrilled. I put the card in the phone and it immediately pops up the card info screen. Yeah! I open the Card Info app and there it is, my 1.8G free of 1.8G Secure Digital Card.

Now the catch(es).

1. I can't format the card. When I try it suddenly sees that I have a card but says the size is "None". If I take the card out and put it back in it is seen as a 1.8G card again. It also appears to be blank. It will let me rename the card.
2. The longer the card is in the phone, the more used space it has. This trend seems to continue until there is between 192KB and 1.5MB of used space. Now, I could care less about 1.5MB of space on a 2G card, but what's up with it creeping up like that?
3. The camera app can read from and write to the card, Real Player can read, but for some reason Real Player can't save a playlist. I'm not impressed with Real's desktop apps and I'm assuming the Palm version sucks too. If that's the case any recommendations are welcome.

So, do I have anything to be concerned about or should I just ignore the fact that it doesn't seem to format the card right and enjoy my Treo?

It sounds like you either have a bad card or a bad SD card slot on your Treo. You should see about 1.8GB on an empty 2GB card. To determine which is at fault, you can either throw it in a card reader, or grab a trial version of Card Export II. This will let your PC see the SD card in the Treo as an external drive. Then check the card properties in Windows.
If the card doesn't work in Windows either, then you know you have a bad card. To rule out the card slot, either borrow a known good card from a friend, or pick up a cheap card, 128MB should be around $20 if not less. If the new card works, then the slot is fine.

My description must have sucked. It does see 1.8G free on the card if I don't try to format it.

I've used a smaller card in it and it formatted fine. I'm wondering if this card isn't just marginally larger than FAT allows for and if that is throwing the Treo for a loop.

No, the Treo should be able to read anything up to and including 2GB. I'm leaning towards a bad card, especially if the smaller card worked fine. It happens, I had to return a 2GB card myself.
