Default New to the Palm Treo Family

    EverythingTreo,

Hello, I'm a new owner of a New Treo cingular 650 as of 7/6/06. I've been with nokia since My 1st cellphone and I thought I'd Give Palm and Treo's a try. I'm completly new and for help I went to MyTreo.net and TreoCentral for help but I got little to no help. I will like to know how to unbrand my Treo 650 and unlock it. Also for work purposes some good programs, Like programs that can edit and read PDF's Word, Excel and other Doc's. And question.... I want to set up some mail boxes on my phone. Do I get charged for using VersaMail? Or is it free? I know get charged for data but is the actual use of VersaMail free? And can I set up more thant one mailbox on it? I had 3 set up at one time on my Nokia 6682. Hopefully this forum can be a big help to me.

    Thank You,

    "SymbianBlack"

Hello. Congratulations on getting your Treo and welcome to the forum.

Unbranded and unlocked are actually two different things. Unbranded is a way you can buy it, meaning it's one originally bought from Palm, as opposed to a particular provider. An unlocked Treo is one that will accept a SIM card from any GSM carrier, as opposed to being "locked" onto one specific network. The two ways I know of to unlock your Treo are to call your carrier or try google for someone who will sell you an unlock code. Obviously, the carrier way is more reliable but some people have had a hard time. A way that seems to work is explain you'll be traveling overseas and want to purchase local SIM cards rather than pay int'l roaming fees.

For .pdf files, I really like the free palmPDF. DocsToGo, which comes on the Treo, will do the Word, Excel & PowerPoint for you.

VersaMail is free with the Treo. Like you said, you'll get charged for data when you're downloading mail, unless you've got an unlimited data plan. The charges on the different carriers vary. I don't use VersaMail myself, but I believe it supports multiple mailboxes.

    Hope this helped.

DocsToGo is on the CD. It handles those Office-type files. Run the installation off the CD, then sync.
