New to Treos...Help!

I just bought a used 650. I am usually pretty good at this technology thing butthis phone has me baffled.

First I want to remove the other persons name from the hotsync procedure. I added my name but it wont download anything I put in quickinstall under my name.

Second, it is an unlocked GSM, is there anything I should add to update it? The prvious owner had Cingualr service, and did not unlock it. Is there anything I am missing? Where do I go first?

First off, congrats on your new Treo. I'd recommend you perform a "hard reset". What this does is bring the Treo back to it's "default" state. If there is any 3rd party software, that will be deleted. This will give you a fresh start.

Be careful about updates, since this is an unlocked Treo. Unless you have specific problems, I wouldn't worry about updating your Treo.

It should retain it's unlocked status. Before doing this, have you inserted your SIM card and tried using the Treo?

Yes I have used it and it works.

I actually just did the hard reset and it cleared out everything, and still retained its unlocked status. SO now when I HotSync will it reset everything in there too?

If you set all the conduits to "Handheld overwrites desktop," then everything on your Treo should replace everything on your computer. You'll be able to name your Treo at your first sync.

how does one know if your treo is unlocked? i had mine unlocked but not 100% if it is. can someone let me know?

Assuming it has Cingular branding, try putting in an T-Mobile SIM card (a friends or your own). If it works, it's unlocked.
