    Smile new treo650 guy

    greetings everyone,

i just bought a treo 650 and am happy with so far about 2 weeks out.

i have a question i am hoping someone can help me with. on my computer i have some music files that play in windows media player and i also have some pictures that are jpeg.

i bought a kodak 512mb smart card and transferred my music and some pics to the smart card and then placed it into the treo 650 thinking i was all set
    wrong!

looks like i got to figure out how to convert all my music files to real player and then they will play on the treo 650, or i have to get windows media player on the treo 650. i got the treo 650 hotsynced to the computer but cant seem to get the windows media player over to the treo so it can read what is on the smart card.

what do i do? how do i convert things to real player so i can start listening to music on my treo. also, how do i get these simple pics to be recognized by my treo, any ideas would be of great help

thanks much and i am grateful for this community, this treo will help me better organize a reggae festival i founded in vallejo ca. to support a project i am trying to do for young folks in my town,

    sincere, john

    Hi John,

I guess u need to place these pics or music files in specific folders in your SD card so that ur treo recognizes these files.....

For pics.. create a folder called DCIM on your SD card and place ur pics in this folder.

For music try creating a folder called Audio or Music and then place your *.mp3 files in that folder.

For Applications, databases [PDB , PRC] the folder on ur SD should be either PALM or Launcher

For MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint the folder on ur SD should be Documents.

    I hope this info helps....

hey thanks for advice, sounds like i have multiple things to do/learn.

first, i will insert the SD card into pc, i see a 2 files already callerd DCIM and PALM. i can drag the pics into this file and then they open up? next, the songs on my pc play in the windows media player. sounds like i have to convert thes to mp3 files, then do the file thing on the SD card, finally, place SD card in treo650 and waa llaaa?

    thanks for vibes, sincere

    hey babu,

the pics folder idea worked well! thanks much...

now, i created a folder called 'audio' on the SD card and moved my music into it, what i noticed is each song/file has the .wma at the end of it, not an .mp3 or .realplayer type file extension.

the music still wont open up on the SD card inserted in the treo cuz the player is real player, i guess i need to download windows media player to the TREO? or, convert the songs in the windows media format on my pc to MP3 or real player files?

    any vibes? thanks again

Might not be the answer you are looking for, but I believe PocketTunes plays Windows Media files.... You can do a trial of the software to see.
Good luck, and welcome. Enjoy your Treo! I love mine!

Just a thought. Did you not wanna use the realplayer that came on the install disc? Realplayer 10 desktop is on the disc and doesn't take up anymore space then the bare minimum. You already have it on your phone so it's just a minor upgrade. Once you have that installed it's just a matter of moving the files over to your phone. Which it'll upload the songs directly to your card as soon as you transfer em. Only problem with this though, is you can only access the songs through Ringo or Realplayer. Not really sure if this is an answer you were lookin for. Got into a rambling phase, sorry.

Yes, this is true; PocketTunes works great and you don't have to worry about the format of your music.
