newbie just ordered a 650 and has questions
Hello all, my name is John, and this is my first post. I just ordered a 650 from Verizon and expect to get it on Tuesday. I have been a Palm user for over 8 years, having owned a pilot, III and am currently using a Tungsten E. I was wondering if anyone else has upgraded from an E to a 650. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall? What happens to my 3rd party apps like Splash ID? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there! I recently upgraded to a Treo from a Sony Clie myself, and I have to tell you, I had some problems getting my stuff into the Treo. I suppose my problem was that, somehow, I ended up syncing both devices with the same user name, and that is ONE BIG NO-NO. Eventually, what I had to do was to place the backup files in my PC in the Quick Install tool, and that worked. Good luck!

Thanks for your advice. My situation is a little different, since I am migrating from one palm device to another. Hopefully there is a guide out there or something in the manual that covers this change.

Upgrading old Palm device to Treo 650
I think you just have to follow the steps on Palm's site for upgrading a Palm device to a Treo 650.

I recommend getting a large SD card for any applications that support reading from that media. The Treo 650 has limited memory and I have had it get stuck in a loop if the memory get too low. I have a few 1GB cards that I swap between. If you use Documents To Go, they have a utility to move their memory intensive applications to a memory card. I have been a Treo user since the 600 and will likely get the next generation once it is released.

Newbie here too
Hello-
Do any of you know whether or not an unlocked version Treo 650 has the same features like Edge technology like the Cingular Treo? Also, does anyone know if there are any major differences between the unlocked version and the Cingular version? I just purchased an unlocked treo from ebay, but I just read somewhere that EDGE was only available through Cingular version. Maybe I just misunderstood? My current provider is Cingular, but I am a previous AT&T customer. I'm a bit worried that I didn't do as much research as I should've and will be stuck with a noncomaptible phone.
Thanks in advance-
Jose

You should be fine. I don't believe you'll find any "hardware" differences and I might be wrong..but I don't believe there is anything hardware related that is specific to the Edge network.
Congrats! Report back when you get it.

Reinstall is must for your apps....
