Default NEWBIE - Treo 650 T-Mobile & further questions

Hello My Fellow Phone Enthusiasts,
I have just joined this forum due to my recent purchase of the the Treo 650. I purchased a brand new unlocked Treo 650 (cingular version) from Ebay which I should be receiving tommorow. I have had good experience with a lot phones and have usually been loyal to Sony. I've had the Sony Ericsson K500, K750I, K800. P910i, P990i. I decided to try something new with this Treo due to so much compatible software available for it on the web.

My Question:
Any Tmobile users out there that have purchased an unlocked cingular version of the treo 650? If so have you had any problems with it? Do I have to download any software update in order for me to send texts or browse the web etc.? Last but not least is there any way I can erase the cingular software on here (since I don't need it due to having T-Mobile) and have it be in factory state as it was before Cingular loaded the software on it?

Thank You

I also bought a Cingular branded Tre 650 from Ebay and have had no problems with email or web use. There is a way to get rid of the unwanted shortcuts on the phone app, but I can not remember how it's done. I found the info on the web, so maybe a search will help. Until you find it, just move them to the last shortcut page.

Welcome to ET pardon my forgetfulness for not greeting you on my first response. As long as you are not wanting to get rid of software that is in rom as opposed to ram you do it unless its locked. You should be able to use the internet and text or browse as long as you have a plan for internet or text messaging. I don't know about TMo I am on cingular with an ATT Wireless unlocked for Cingular use the internet and text some.

Exclamation Tmobile sim card issue - NO INCOMING CALLS

I just received today an unlocked Treo 650 that I am using with my Tmobile prepaid account.
The problem is that I can make calls and access T-zones but I cannot receive calls and SMS!
I did some troubleshooting and here are the results:
Together with my other family members we have a total of 5 Tmobile accounts (and 5 sim cards of course) so I was lucky to make some try and error in order to sort out if the problem was with the phone or with the SIM.
Only one sim card presents the above mentioned problem; all others are just fine: outgoing calls OK, incoming calls OK, T-zones OK.
So I decided to go to a Tmobile store and have my SIM replaced with a new one while keeping the phone number associated to it... unlucky me, it did not work! same problem (wasted 25$).
I got in touch with a very helpful tech guy @ Tmobile customer service and he could not get a solution...
I even ask him to compare on his system my SIM settings with the settings of one of the other SIMs that are working good but he told me that they are identical !

It seems that there is a fatal combination of a particular kind of Tmobile SIM with the Treo 650 that generates the above mentioned problem.

Now, I hope somebody has been able to find a solution to this problem and will be so kind to post it ASAP.

Hey Guys!
I am sorry for not replying and keeping people up to date. To everyone I would like to say thank you. I got my issue resolved and was able to get the Cingular software off of it. I flashed the firmware update for unlocked gsm phone version 1.23 and after doing so I flashed it to Firmware 1.28 and my phone is working with beauty. By far the best phone i've had yet (due to so much compatibility out there). I have my t-zones working, web working, picture messaging, and email working from my phone so I am good to go.

Now i'm a little confused with the Rom and Firmware term usage. Are they the same thing? Because, as stated when I flashed the Firmware update version 1.23 & 1.28 it took off all the Cingular software and basically unbranded it. So what is ROM and what does it do? Because some people say that it removes unwanted applications, but you can also do that by clicking on menu and then delete. Once again I am a newbie so I appologize for these questions that may seem common sense to everyone else ;)

**EDIT**
Nevermind guys I found out what ROM is by doing a search. Once again I appreciate everyones feedback and help

Nagual, does your treo have the software/firmware for tmobile? I don't use sim cards (sprint) so I can't say if your treo needs the tmobile firmware or not, but it seems most do load the carrier firmware here.

Nagual when you replaced the sim card was the old one 32k and the new one 64k? Or did they replace the 32 K with nother 32K? It might be a corrupted phonedb on your card, or check the phone preferences there was a similar thread and stillrockin said to check phone preferences and make sure its not forwarding your incoming calls somewhere else. Look for that thread in Et its like unable to receive calls and sms on t mobile

My old card was a 32k sim card and the new one another 32k sim card.
Checked the phone preferences and all forwarding incoming call rules are correct.
In the meantime I have found this thread: http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...vice-2516.html
Seems that problem has to do with some 32K sim cards and that it has been solved switching to a 64K sim card.
I have order a 64k tmobile sim card on ebay and I should receive it within few days.
I hope to solve my problem once for all. Keep my fingers crossed
