Default Noob - Unlocked Treo question

I have a Cingular Phone (Moto 551) with unlimited Media Works. It has a lousy address book and a poor battery life. It is in a family plan with my wife's phone.

The question... can I buy an unlocked Palm One Gsm Treo 650 and plug in my SIM card and pay the same rates and here the same services? Would Cingular even know I switched? Would they even care?

I assume my phone number wouldn't change...

Sorry it is a Noob queston but I had Verizon for years...

It shouldn't be a problem at all and actually this would be a better route to take.

I just got the Moto 551 1 week ago. I could still return it and get the 650, but I am uncertain I could get the Media Works Unlimited or a Family share plan.

I suppose I could return it and just order from palm one and get new service and a new number. But could I then add a phone for my wife on a shared plan? So many questions...

Thanks.

I'm assuming you are going with usual providers and I don't know of any that do not offer a family plan or add a line option.

The media works is great for the 650 and with cingular you might be in an area where EDGE is available and will speed up the internet and mail send/receive quite a bit. Make sure you're plan for media is unlimited if you are at all a frequent internet browser.

Thanks Pinball...

I did return my old phone and swithced out the SIM to the new 650. I had a few phone calls to Cingular about the Media Work vs Data Plans. Needless to say I am up and running with the Media Works Unlimited at $19.99/month. I am quite pleased.

Thanks for the response.

Default Tricking them?

So, if you can trick Cingular into getting the Media Works unlimited for 20 bucks on your phone, can you browse at EDGE speeds if it is an available network? and how are emails viewed on the Media Works plan? as text messages or something totally different. I'm all for not giving them 20 bucks a month more than I have to...

It won't matter whether you have media works or media net or what ever they call it now, if you're in a market that has edge support you will get edge speeds.

There is also no difference in the way emails are displayed. Good luck in getting the $20 plan though! I have it but got it many months ago when they originally offered it.

I believe now the only way to get unlimited though cingular is to get the media net unlimited internet for 24.99.

The media works is now only 3Mb. of internet then you pay I think a penny for every Kb. you go over. Doesn't sound like alot but it willl add up quick!

However if you are a text messenger then the media net does not include any text messages. Those you have to pay another 8 dollars or something around there for unlimited.

Default question

i currently have a regular cellphone with verizon service. im in the second year of my two year contract, but now i want to buy a treo and get the PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice Bundlessm Core Choice plan. a) can i buy a treo from like ebay and will verizon hook that up with their service? and b) can i just switch to a different plan, namely the voice and data for the treo, without being considered in breach of my contract with verizon, since im switching to a higher plan?

Please let me know. Thanks everyone.

As long as you buy a CDMA Treo...a GSM Treo will not work.....
I am not too familiar with the customer service that Verizon has but
if you talk to a Rep and explain what you want to do.....then just ask can they
cancel out the termination fee since its close to ending anyways....
Plus they are going to make more money from you with the Treo than with the
regular cellphone.
How many more months till your two year contract is up? You might get a better deal
waiting till the conttract is up and then getting the Treo through Verizon....
The carriers can give them away cheaper than anyone else.....plus look online at
Treo sites for stores that offer a loyalty rebate as well as a rebate for the contract...

This link is for the Treo through Verizon for 199.00....I doubt you'll find a new one for less than that.......
