Default OK, I finally Jumped In - Got a 650!

I just ordered a 650 through an eBay reseller - opening a new line of service. I should have the 650 tomorrow. Yippee! I decided to wait out the 700"x" - I really wanted a phone, email, probably some IM and some MP3 which I believe the 650 will serve me well. While EVDO speed is great, I am not away from a computer THAT much and I figured that I want to spend another $200-300 on sw and accessories. That would cost out the 700 at $700-800+. A little too much for me. I'll wait until next year.

Now, I need to order....screen protectors, holster (Seidio clip-in), S&C cable - maybe the car charger adapter for the S&C cable, stereo adapter...OK, there's $70! Any other essentials other than a good BU and Uninstaller program (probably going with the Nomad Suite for that).

I am planning on taking my time and getting used to the device before installing tons of programs. On my list first will probably be FileZ, Chattermail, then an IM program (most likely Agile), then probably PocketTunes. Not sure from there, I'll wait and see what I need.

I am looking forward to tomorrow!

edit - oh, and Volumecare? Are most people using that?
edit again - and a 2gb SD card!

Congrats on making the jump! Good luck and feel free to post questions if/when you've gottem'.

If you come up with an original FAQ, you can get a free Everything Treo Sync & Charge cable.

You'll have Documents to Go and eReader on the CD that comes with your Treo, along with a few other programs. PowerUp is a handy free utility that automagically powers up your radio when you reset. mLights is handy as well ($9.95, IIRC). It turns off your kb backlight during the day, and dims your screen at night. This can help extend battery life. SoftReset is another freebie that lets you reset without having to remove the battery cover.
I would try out your Treo, and buy VolumeCare if it's an issue. Some of the newer firmware updates were supposed to improve volume.

One of our forum members, Stillrockin', has a good entry on his blog about good free Treo software.

bubbatex, Congrats! Back, in the fall, I was in a similar situation. Couldn't make up my mind if I should take a plunge with the 650 or hold out for the 700W, or other WM devices. I ended up with a great deal from my local Cingular Carrier one day and walked out with the 650! I haven't regreted it a second! This forum has helped me so much and there is no question about it, my Treo experience has been even more positive because of the knowledge base that exists here. It seems like everyone here is always ready to help!

VolumeCare was a necessity for me! It was the first app I bought for my Treo. In the office, headset volume was fine. But in the car, or in noisy environments, I was really struggling to hear the other person. About the 2nd day I owned my new Treo, I was driving on an interstate, and got a call. I ended up putting the guy on speakerphone and holding it up to my ear! I have heard many people say, that it just isn't an issue with them. but for me it certainly was! VolumeCare cured that within seconds of being installed!

I am also a Chatteremail user, and find myself constantly bragging about it here on this forum. I used agile for a while and liked it ok, but tried IM+ as a result of a post on this forum and bought it after about 3 days into the trial. In addition to AOL/ICQ/Yahoo/ICQ, it supports googletalk, and Jabber.

So this should be a fun day for you! Unwrap that baby, charge it, sync it, hold it in your hand, poke it, talk on it, play with it, and if anything stumps you, there is always someone close by here to help you out!

    Peace and Grace!

Yeah, good info in some of your Treo-related entries. Now just hope you don't get slashdotted...

Good stuff, very helpful and worthy of a mention!

If you put it the form of an FAQ (Is there any good free software for my Treo?) and send it to faq at everythingtreo.com, I'll add you to the list of recipients for a free Sync & Charge cable. I already have quite a few entries and well on they way to creating a useful FAQ.

Thanks guys - after an afternoon playing around - this thing is GREAT! I am sorry it took me sooo long to get one.

Chris - As a newbie, I would like to offer a suggestion on the FAQ. I have looked at many different ones around the other sites. One of the best is actually at www.ppc6700users.com (I was thinking about one of those for a while - don't hold it against me!). For newbies, they have a step-by-step of what you 'should' do after you open the box. I thought it was pretty good. Something like that for the Treo would be nice, IMO.

Hey Bubbatex, I noticed you are from Austin . . . When you try out that Camera how about getting a shot of my favorite Guitar Player . . . . Eric Johnson! What a talent! I don't believe I have ever listened to a more rounded musician! I currently have Cliffs of Dover set as a ringtone on my Treo! Ever caught him live?
