Palm desktop & treo 650 problems
Hi,
I've been using a Treo 650 (Verizon) that I got as a replacement phone when my Treo 600 died. The 650 has hot synced OK with the Palm desktop software I had but will NOT transfer photos 9which reside on the 650) to the PC. So....I had the bright idea to uninstall the Palm Desktop and reinstall it, thinking maybe then the photos would transfer. After much aggravation I installed the Palm Desktop (I think, v.6.2) and get a notice saying that seepicture.exe cannot be found.
Further, hot syncs no longer work. The setup is very different from the existing Palm Desktop I used to have, but I configured so that the handheld would overwrite the PC, so I could restore all my addresses and phone numbers to the new Palm Desktop on the PC. It goes through the whole hot sync process but apparently no data at all transfers. There's *nothing* under Addresses.
So....do I do a System Restore to retrieve my old Palm Desktop and just give up on ever being able to retrieve pictures from the Treo to the PC? At the moment that seems like the only way to get my databases (primarily Addresses) back.
Any advice is MOST appreciated....it just doesn't seem this should be such a hassle.
Thanks,
Win

Someone a long, long, long time ago mumbled something about media transfer - you gotta have it enabled on the desktop. Media transfers have the ability to really slow the sync down to a sunk. I suggest either a physical card reader or an application such as CardReader (http://www.mobile-stream.com/cardreader.html) - there are just a small handful of similar applications.
Wow. A device based backup application does a good job in maintaining your device in a healthy state with the backup done on a daily basis so that the Restore Doctor can restore from the last known good backup. Much better than relying upon the desktop.
If you have it properly installed and setup and it still does not work, the next step would be to answer this question: is your desktop equipped with Blueteeth? You may have a bad USB cable, dirty or one that just wants to misbehave and be antisocial. Once set up, Bluetooth transfers work well, albeit a bit slower than the USB cousin.
As for missing data, have you looked all around your documents folder on the desktop: USER/DOCUMENTS/ and maybe, just maybe the folder got renamed to something you do are not expecting. If the folder got renamed then there is a good chance that nothing other than your time was lost.
