Default Palm GPS TomTom Navigator 6

I received my Palm TomTom Navigator 6 bundle today. I just wanted to create a new post specificly for this package in case anyone had any inquiries or questions, I may be able to answer from experince. I purchased it here on this site.

I even purchased the Dennis Hopper voice, lol, love it!! Install, activation and sync couldnt have gone smoother. The only annoyance I have seen so far is when TomTom needs to connect to the internet through my Treo for extras. Its a lil spoty, sometimes it wont connect, but I'm assuming thats my carrier, Srint.

    Default Not Impressed

Ok, so I have had this package for about a week now. I am a field technician, so I do lots of traveling. Although most of my destinations this past week I have already been to and know how to get to them, TomTom is not very efficient. One example is just leaving my home. It has me go in a huge circle when there is absolutely no need. Second example is when it successfuly got me lost leaving a friends house. It directed me through a suburban coldusac which was a dead end. It also gave me horrible directions another time. I am definitely not happy with the product. IMO the traffic feature is not very effective either nor is it easy to use. I tried adjusting travel preferences, toll preferences and that does not seem to make a difference.

Anywho, I'm returning the product and getting a Garmin which is what I normally get with my rental cars when I travel. O well....:frown:

Hey when you get your garmin go down the same routes and see if there is a difference. I thought that they (gps) use the smae data base. I was thinking about getting one of these with or without the treo.

I love my tomtom, the only time I got lost w/ it is when I didn't turn when it told me to turn and it gave me alternate route in seconds. Even though you may now a short cut, it's giving you the data from what most will consider a shortcut and most maps will give you the most popular way instead of shortcuts that we would take but I know when I start taking my short cut the tomtom will check again see where i'm at and take the same shortcut route i'm taking. When they where doing rd construction around my way the tomtom picked it up and gave me an alternate route. I haven't been able to use the traffic guide to much because when I did use it before that feature expired when I was in traffic I had no choice but to stay in it.

In my experience the GPS systems all seem to use essentially the same database. That also includes mapping services like Mapquest. Like anything else the system is only as good as the data and if updates aren't available to reflect construction, route changes, road refinements, etc. then there will be errors.

I personally use the Magellan system and have been very happy with it. I used to use Mapquest extensively and again I was usually happy, but when it was wrong...YIKES!!! The same is true for GPS. I had occasions in the Chicago area when I was being told to take an exit that wasn't there and also to stay on a road when it was obviously at the end. I believe both of those were due to road construction completed six months earlier and three years earlier. Some data may also be a result of proposed changes that might have been canceled.

Whenever possible I still make sure I have a map of an area I am unfamiliar with and I try to have a visual picture in my mind...just in case.

I am also curious, which rental company uses Garmin? I know Hertz uses Magellan. As a matter of fact I am in LA for the past two weeks and have a Hertz with the Magellan and it saved me a couple of times while in downtown LA, a place I am not familiar with. However, every night going back to the hotel it tries to send me on a strange route.

I think one thing that happens is that when correct, which is usually, we are very impressed at the accuracy and the technology in general. We expect it to work and when it is wrong we are shocked that the technology failed.

    Just my $.02....

    Default Installing TomTom Navigator 6.0

I bought the TomTom Navigator package that includes version 6.0 and updated maps but can't figure out how to install it on my Treo 650. The CD I got installs TomTom Home on my computer. It tells me to connect my device with a USB cable and turn it on. The only connector I have is the USB connector that I use to hotsync my Treo with the Palm Desktop on my computer. I hooked my Treo up with that and turned on Navigator but my computer can't seem to see my Treo. :frown: All I get is a message that says something like "no device connected."

Default GPS Smartphone on my Mac?

Oh please! I got mine installed on my Treo, and used the CD, but there is nothing at all on my Mac! And I can't see any way to install anything.

I would like to be able to plan a trip on the computer, and transfer info to the Treo, or even use the Treo inside without the GPS turned on. Can't figure out how to do so.
I had great hopes for this gadget, and so far, I'm either befuddled or underwhelmed.
Any insights, or does anyone know of a comprehensive instructional guide?

Did you ever get this working? I am having exactly the same problem with my Treo 750, Tomtom Navigator and Tomtom HOME version 2.2

I think you need to use the sync cable to use palm quick installer. Tou should have directions either from palm or tomtom but I would think that in quickinstaller you drop app onto card(large files) Then sync your device.

If you cannot sync your treo that is a different issue...
