Exclamation Palm reboots on its own

Hi all, I recently bought the Treo 650. I had my first one for a week before I took it back to Cingular and returned it b/c my phone would reboot on its own. I would notice it would occur while I was synching my emails and once while I was using Real Player. I was given a new one with no questions asked, now a week later it happened with my new Treo, again while I was synching my emails? Does any one else have this problem? Is it the phone or the software?

Versa mail can get corrupt files when you sync or try and delete e-mails. I had to go in and delete the versamail files and reset up my e-mail account to correct the reset.

I just check my mail when I am away from the office so I disabled the sync with versamail no more problems.

    Hi:

You might want to check what aoplication is causing the reset. In the phone screen, enter ##377 and press dial and you should be provided with details as to which app caused the error. Then you can try tracking down a solution.

Note that the ##377 varies between carriers. Some are #*377. I'm not sure which Cingular is. I am with Sprint.

    Good luck,

Thanks for the info guys...The resets usually happen while I was manually synching the emails not during the automatic synch. After dialing #*377 the error reads " A reset was caused on 8/7/06 @ 9:11 pm while rinning"Web": Fatal Exception"...

VERY interesting info - mind if I tag along? I was having problems where after hot synching my 650 would automatically reboot. Very annoying.

I tried this approach and the following was returned: "A reset was caused on ... while running "Contacts". Window.c, Line:2104, can't change depth when draw state pushed".

Can anybody translate what this means????

    Thanks

Normally anything showing a contacts error means the file has a problem; I suggest you look at DB Scan if you have not done so all ready. When running it, select "neither" in the first screen and it will look at your database and normally correct them.

Resets after a backup - take a look at this site:
    http://www.bitsnbolts.com/nvfs.php and
    http://resco.net/palm/backup/aboutbackup.asp

Also, you should obtain an application that allows you to monitor and clear your DB cache, I use MemoryInfo.

Another thing that reduces those errors is bunches of free memory; a third party launcher will help you there, especially one that allows you to move apps that do not require staying in main memory to the SD card and allows you to launch them from the card and then moves the app back to the card upon application termination. I use ZLauncher and there are bunches out there that do the basic job. ZLauncher does a bit more than the basic job.

Locking applications in memory also is something to consider. I use Resco Lock. There is a thread or two here that talks about crashes. I went from an exceedingly unstable device to an exceeding stable device.

Both area available from MyTreo.net in their downloads section. The link:

    http://mytreo.net/downloads/

dbScan is also part of the Datebook 5/6 download package.

Running dbScan is a breeze. Start it up and when presented with the first screen, tape the far right button that says "neither" and it will look at the databases and do its thing.

Hello, I don't mean to take over this thread but I believe I have some useful info.

I followed Benjie's earlier link and researched bitsnbolts.com, which was very interesting. That led me to NVFS updates available at www.Palm.com. I checked that out, which was fruitful since it had the Treo 650 Updater 1.13 for Sprint PCS, and I was on version 1.12. I followed the whole process, which included a hard reset, with success. Afterwards my device runs much much better with no unintentional reboots.

My advice for these symptoms/problems is look at support under Palm.com. Good luck!
