Default Phone app is crashing my 650

I have had many crashes over the last few days, on my three-week old Cingular 650 (1.1.5), some requiring hard resets.

#*ERR reveals that the culprit is the Phone app.

("DataMgr.c, Line 7564, Invalid uniqueID passed" is the most recent)

When the crash happens, I'm either on the phone OR the Treo is not in use and I pick it up only to notice that the Treo has reset itself and the phone is off.

Certainly this must be a software conflict with a third party app. I don't run that many, but has anyone got any clues on whether or not these apps play well with others? I used them on my 600 with no troubles for months.

    AvantGo
    ClockDeluxe
    Ptunes
    Ringo
    Volume Care

My first guess is VC, but wanted to see if anyone has been down this road.

    Thanks

I havn't gotten my Treo yet, but may I suggest a tried-and-true troubleshooting process for PDA(s)?
[If there are no other suggestions...]

Uninstall all of those apps you mentioned.

Re-install one every day, and watch it closely.
When you start to see crashes again, you'll know what app to blame.

Worked great for me when I had my Visor back in the day.

I had both Ringo and VolumeCare on my Treo and was getting similar crashes as well, I took out both and now I just get Fatal errors now... I updated ZLauncher and snapper to the new update versions this week and that seemed to do the trick until this morning when my 650 reset 2x already (Fatal errors) im at my wits end with this device already...

I have seen several references to Volume Care causing crashes. However, if that isn't your problem, I am not sure if this applies, but I have had periodic crash/instability problems. What I have started to notice is that if I get low on memory, the Treo seems to become unstable (not a big surprise, eh?).

For me, this is partially due to the amount of programs loaded, but what puts it over the edge is the amount of AOL email that collects in Versamail.

I find that deleting the VersaMail build-up clears up the problems. In particular the problem pops up at about 1.7mb of memory left. I am now better at keeping up with maintenance.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input. After several rounds of resetting and re-installing apps, it actually looks like the problem was Clock Deluxe. The author sent me a new version (which may not yet be released) and seems to have resolved my problem.

And I have noticed too that un-emptied trash in VersaMail is a cycle hog. I'm not a programmer, but it seems that mail in the trash could be "forgotten" by the device and left unloaded, at least until the user selects "trash."

I found that I had 1200 emails in trash and VersaMail was unusable, even selecting a different mail account. I don't need to keep 1200 emails on my Palm, but I had forgotten to empty the can and since I don't use the Treo as my primary email source, I didn't even think about it.

Now, I have to say what my non-technical friends (whom I help ALL the time) say to me ALL the time. "If someone doesn't have sombody like you around to get help with computer problems, what do they do?" These "regular Joes" don't even know where to start.

I want to love my Treo and I almost do. I still like my old 600 more because it seemed more stable. As a technically minded user, I can figure out problems that I have and those I can't figure out, I know where to ask questions or find answers.

When it comes to predicatble usabilty, our gadgets are falling woefully short and the casual, non-tekkie user, doesn't have that kind of time to invest in fixing their Palm because they loaded something that broke it.

volume care + ringo = bad news. my phone would reset every time I received a pix or text message... since removing VC no more prob. now my phone seldomly resets when answered blaming ringo... never had this issue with ringo till VC was installed! I will remove ringo and reinstall and see if it persists after a reset. I hear disableing the stop alarms setting on VC might help thes 2 apps work together..
