Default Phone keeps knocking me out of GPS!! Help!

I love the Treo and it has replaced my PDA. I consolidated to one device instead of 2 (phone and PDA) I recently installed TomTom 5 on the Treo and it works great. The problem I have is that when I recieve a call or make a call, it closes down the Navigation program. How can I use the phone without losing the nav program? I am in sales and make long road trips. Thanks in advance for your help. New to the site but it is an awesome site.
Is there some utility or something I can download to fix this problem? or am I just missing something?

Default Tom Tom Navigator GPS on Treo 650

Here's a Tom Tom patch for the Treo 650. I'm not sure if it resolves your issue or it's restating the current compatibility...

    From the Tom Tom site...
TomTom Navigator on the Treo 650: The Phone feature of the Treo 650 must be switchced off while using TomTom Navigator. If a call is taken or made while TomTom Navigator is in use you will have to restart it and replan the route.

This is right below the patch - so perhaps the patch fixes this?

New to the site but it is an awesome site.

    Thanks. Glad you like it!

I followed the link and that is for version 4.something. I just installed version 5. If the phone has to be turned off while I use the navigator that will severely limit me. I see that you have some gps software on your phone. did the same thing happen to you?

Will any of the utilities advertised here help with this? Like a launcher product or something?

I do not currently have any GPS software installed on my Treo 650. I have in the past used Mapopolis on my Treo 600 -- but to be honest, I'm not sure if incoming calls interupted the app.

From what I've read (and I'm not 100% sure), Tom Tom is recommending you restart the app after the call -- which will then remap the course. I agree, this would be a drawback. I guess you lose the program at the time you accept the call -- but not the route. If this is the case, I'd suggest mapping one of the Treo's main buttons for the GPS system.

That's a good suggestion. Do you know how I could do that? Sorry for my ignorance and all the questions.

So, how is the TomTom 5? You're using the Bluetooth version?

I've used iGuidance on a HP PDA for about 2 years and really liked it. Like I said before being in sales with the State of Florida as my terr, I'm constantly drive to some city and location I haven't been to before. I'm totally hooked on the technology. TomTom does do things a little differently but from what i can tell so far, it works really well on my Treo. I am using the bluetooth GPS, the new SIRF III and it is awesome. It aquires sats much faster than my old gps and keeps the lock in adverse conditions much better. So far, I'm happy. I guess during a call, I have to do without it though which is inconvenient. When I'm on the open road, not a problem, when in the city with allot of turns, I guess I just can't take the call.

On the Treo, you're able to run app's while on the phone. I wonder if it would work if you went back to TomTom while on the call. Maybe it's the initial call that causes the switch -- but not during the duration. Worth a try...

Good thought and I tried it out. Here's what happens. When you're in the navigator driving a route and you get a call on your bluetooth earpiece and answer the call, the bluetooth connection to your gps is lost as well as knocking you out of the navigation system. so when you end the call and go back to nav, there is no connection to the gps. Apparently only 1 bluetooth connection at a time.

If you use a wired headset, recieve a call and answer it, it knocks you out of the nav system. When you switch back to the nav system during the call, it hangs up the call, so you can't be on the call and watching the nav system at the same time.

If you take a call finish the call, hang up and switch back to the nav system it picks up right were it should but during the call you have no visibility.

If you choose Ignore when a call comes in, it goes right back to the nav system.
