phone will not recharge - Treo Forums

i dropped my fone the other day adn the next day i noticed it wouldnt charge. so i ordered a new batt over nite from here. well i got the new battery to recharge once. and now it will not charge again. i dont know what to do. i dont wanna hafta pay another fat hunk of my crappy military pay for another. ive had the fone since oct. if i do hafta get a new one, anywhere i can get a used cingular fone cheap?

I would think that if that battery charged once, there might be hope! But I did just buy a new battery myself, and I noticed it had almost 50% on it when I first plugged it in. Are you able to use the phone when its plugged into the charger?

I am seeing a few used 650's on Ebay for various prices. Been looking at the posibility of picking up my wife one . . I would assume that when the 700P comes to cingular, that ebay will have several available for a song . . .

yeah you can get one on ebay for pretty cheap. i think probably by the time 700p drops the prices will drop though.
just a heads up though on ebay you may be buying a peace of crapso be ware. although sprint is pretty cool with it. i had a buddy buy one on ebay and he had insurance paid on the phone right when he hooked up his service. well a couple days later his phone just stoped and he took it to sprint and they just sent him another one. so insure your stuff.

it will only charge to 42% and then drop again. im wondering if i am gonna just hafta get a new one. maybe an unlocked one? its my new batt that will only charge to 42, the old one wont charge at all. im thinking it could be the memory of the batter got screwed up somehow. im gonna get a seperate batt charger and see if that will charge it to full and reset the memory. nothing has worked right since i droped it tho. it randomly turns itself off. and after i did a hard reset it didnt load back the same as it had before after the update. i think my fone may jus be screwed. cingular wouldnt let me get insurance on the fone. crap huh?

There are places that can fix your treo and I bet cingular is one too. Have them quote repair prices or quote the repair costs before they repair it.

I agree with Plunker! Don't write it off yet! See what Cingular can do for you! It might not be a death sentence for your Treo yet . . . .

im going to call them on my lunch tomarrow. hope its not much. im ordering a spare batt/charger/cradle right now. be useful in the long run

This is Kevin from Palm. Sorry to hear about the issues, and they could be due to the drop, but there are a couple of things you might try. First, those Lithium Ion batteries do not have memory, that's one of their advantages. Take a look at the Palm Knowledge Library article "Battery won't recharge". There are some basic troubleshooting steps there, but the part about resetting the internal charging circuitry via an in-cradle reset might help.
I don't know if the randomly turning off issue began after the drop, but there was an issue that could cause the radio to turn itself off on Cingular Wireless Treo 650 smartphones due to the SIM tray. There is a diagram of the SIM tray that you can compare to yours, and info on how to replace it, if necessary, in the Palm article
