Plantronics 510S - Office / Bluetooth System
I have been looking for a system that will incorporate a Bluetooth for my Treo 650 and a wireless headset for my office. The Plantronics 510S seems to be a great unit but I would love to know if any of you have heard any good or bad about...

Plantronics 510s Bluetooth Mobile / Office Solution
Hey everyone...I decided to be a guinea pig and try out the new Plantronics 510s Bluetooth Mobile / Office unit. It is the Voyager 510 and a base that allows you to make your home or office phone Bluetooth. So far so good...it took me about 5 minutes to set it up and adjust it with a friend on the other end. It is really pretty slick. I use the Bluetooth on the way to work & when I get to work it knows I am there and sends all of my office calls to the headset as well. You have to take the standard phones handset off the cradle to energize the Bluetooth unit when a calls comes in unless...you have the lifter that automatically lifts the handset for you when you hit the button on the side of the headset. I found the range @ my office to be better than they advertise too!
Here is some info & a link below:

Smart Phone Idiot
Loanguy, that looks like a lot of headset! When you posted the 1st time, I knew nothing of the headset, but from the web site, it sounded like a great dual use solution! It sounds like you are pleased with it! How is it for all day comfort? Best of luck with it, and if you have any more positive or negative, how about sharing with the group!

Cost on the Plantronics
I forget to tell you that I won this "$299" retail set for $132 w/shipping on E-bay brand new. Chris / Treo Store sells the Heaset itself for $59.95 - they may start selling the office base seperate soon for all of you that own the 510 headset already. Let me know if anyone else has a chance to try this set out.

Testing in progress ... please hang on for more updates

When I first picked it up it felt heavy and I was already planning for the worst...but I found it to be well balanced and it fit really well. It is by now means the smallest of the headsets but I found it to be less bulky than some others out there. They include three different size earpieces to fit almost anyone's ear and / or taste. I do wish they would have included a gel style though...I think that would work even better. Clarity, range, ability to hear the caller & the caller to hear you all seem great so far. Like any Bluetooth it uses a bit more battery out of the Treo, but it is well worth it for me. It comes with two chargers: one is a standard A/C plug in & the other is actually the Bluetooth base for the office use (that's the one that is shown in the picture on Plantronics site). I am only a few days into testing but I will keep everyone posted.

510SL - The whole shebang...
I asked the Mrs. to get me the whole kit for a b-day present and she did.
I'm using it with the new 700p and as of day 2, all is well. Setup was a cinch and it works as advertised.
I got the Mrs. a Jabra JX10 a few weeks back, and although it's sexy, light, and small, the little wire ear loop already broke. In my opinion, the 510S beats it on clarity, durabilty, and function, which is worth the added bulk behind my ear, and I'm getting used to that pretty fast. The call control and volume buttons are easy to find by feel, but power button is a bit too small. Working as a mute button when on a call, pressing it is a difficult becasue you have to press down against your ear where it meets your head. Not a big deal, so far, but could become annoying. The handset lifter (HL) is fast and works like a champ. No callers have mentioned clarity issues and I have not noticed much either, so overall, I'm very pleased with the entire package. There is one caveat, but it is Palm's fault, not Plantronics'. My old Treo 600 would never shut off when on charger. Now, the the auto-off timer on the 700p can even be disabled, charger or not. For many reasons this can be a good thing, but a pain when using the 510SL around multiple paired devices. When the 700p turns off, so does the BT Radio. Again, not a problem when it's just you and the Treo. However, when at the office, the eager 510S switches profiles to the base after the Treo drops off, ready to pounce on the next active device. Consequently, when the Treo rings, it takes A LONG time for it to wake up, enable the radio, signal the headset to switch profiles back, and pick up the call. If left alone, I think the call would roll to VM before the Treo could get its pants on. If you try to pick up before Treo is ready, the HL activates instead and leaves you scrambling. When the 700p is awake, the switch is quick enough that you can pick up on the second ring. If it could stay awake on a cradle, it wouldl be perfect. Sluggish Treos aside, the 510SL is still pretty damn nifty.
Another plus that I did not know about until today... according to Palntronics, the headset will actually hold four profiles, not just two. That means that I can use it with the base at work, the Treo, a second base at home (now sold separately), and a BT-enabled computer. Many BT radios (USB) will carry audio for recording/playback, but some can carry audio and data, which means you can use it for VoIP soft-phones too. Look at the 510-USB model at Plantronics. An awesome option for wireless roadwarriors and one I plan to investigate soon. At this rate, the only time it won't be on my head is when it's charging. Of course once I get a USB charging cable for the headset, a generic USB auto-adapter, and maybe a solar laptop case/pack, then it might as well be sewn to my ear.
