Default Pls Help: Treo Goes Online Too Often/Missed Calls

Can anyone offer any suggestions with the following problem?

I recently purchased a Verizon Treo 650. The phone goes into data mode as often as every 20-30 seconds -- that is the orange/amber LED lights. When this happens, all call go directly to voicemail and, of course, my battery life is terrible.

I haven't had any luck troubleshooting the problem. I have strong reception, so that's not the problem. I've tried hard and soft resets. I've tried using wireless sync and Versamail, but the problem seems to be present with both. I've checked to make sure both are not set to sync often. Versamail is set to sync once an hour. Verichat is not installed and there are no other 3rd party apps except docs to go. It gets better after a soft reset, but then returns after a few hours. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks!

Go to preferences then network. Use the menu key (just to the right of the 5 way) and go to options then preferences. Is the top box checked? If so, uncheck it. Does that fix the problem?

If you setup wireless sync, that is most likely your culprit. You should open Wireless Sync, hit the Menu button then Setup > Push/ReadySync > ReadySync Interval > change this from 20 minutes to whatever you want. You can also tell it to stop syncing when your battery drops below a certain %.

Or, if you have decided to NOT use Wireless Sync for you email, you can just change the timeframe for when it can connect from 6:10am-10:00pm to something like 11:00pm-11:10pm.

Thanks, but so far, those suggestions do not seem to have helped. It still goes into data mode every few minutes. Any other ideas? After I reset the device it's fine -- it's not until the first time that Versamail or Wireless sync runs that it starts.

Try part 2 of my suggestion for one day to at least narrow down the reason. Even if you still want to use Wireless Sync. Change the times it it allowed to access the network to something at night, let me know if when you do that you phone stops getting online so much. Then we can figure out something else.

Thanks -- I'll try it for a few days. One thing I did notice: If I set the Treo to ask before connecting to the Internet, it never does, yet the light is still steady amber much of the time. I can't figure out why thhat would be.

I would disable the auto part of the problem and check manually for a day or two to see if it stops. If it does enable one of the programs and see if it is causeing the problem.

Have you manually checked your e-mail to see how long it takes? Maybe it is trying to download a large e-mail and getting stuck in the process.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I've turned off Versamail's Auto-Get.
A manual GET works just fine.
There are NO email on the server (I delete them as I read them)
I can't figure out WHY it would try and access the server ever two minutes or so...
(now, admittedly, I'm PRESUMING the amber lite means it's trying to access the server.) (and, there's a very fine line between and AMBER lite and the RED lite....)

Anyway... I've just backed up ROM and CARD via BackupBuddyVHS PRO, and I'm gonna HARD RESET, and put stuff bak on 1 at a time....

Hi All:

Are you sure the amber light doesn't mean a possible weak radio (telephone) signal?

SteveTaz

Ps: I have been trying to add info from the Palm Library, but it doesn't seem to post. Try a link...
