Default problems with audio with calls

Ok I have a problem with my treo that is very trustrating and I hope someone can help....

What happens is that my phone no longer has audio when making or receiving calls. This started on my first phone a few weeks ago, cingular sent me a replacement (which looked new) and not that phone is doing the same thing after having it just a few days. I noticed that the "hand free" next to the "hang up" button on the touch screen has gone away when this problem happens and the only way I can make calls is to plug in the stereo headphones/mic. It's as if it's stuck in a mode where the phone thinks it's connected to a headset.

I do use the mp3 player dailey in my car and use a radio shack adapter to convert to the small headphone jack (Ithink it's converted to 1/8"). Could that be the problem?

I've done the whole hard reset thing several times and all cingulatr can do is give me a new phone. I don't feel like waiting another week for a new one so I though I would post here.

    Any ideas?

    Thx Lee

    Hi Lee:

Welcome to ET!!! If you do a search of these boards using "headphone jack" or similar and you will find all kinds of posts that may be of help. I have had the problem and learned the hard way. Using the headphone jack to listen to music seems to kill an internal part of the jack.

Here is one thread that may be of help:
    http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...ht=Broken+Jack

There is a connecter made that fits over the docking connector, bypassing the headphone jack entirely. It is Seidio's Audio Out Adapter and here is a link in the ET store:

YMMV and of course you could have a different problem. Let us know how you make out.

    Good luck,

When you use the head phone jack, there is a switch that tells the treo to diable the speaker. The switch can or does get stuck and your speaker is disabled. A poster here tried different headsets and the switch opened up and the treo worked again. I think he is a blue tooth user now. You might try wiggling the jack in the socket or a different jack to see if it will open.

If it is stuck it needs to go to your carrier for repair....
