Pushing my 650 a Bit More Now

Its been a good while since I have been around here, and for somewhat of a good reason. Work and Mobile Ministry Magazine have kept me quite busy. In that time though, my 650 has really been a productivity boon for me. I have been able to handle postings and emails with ease. And to some degree, am doing some fixing on some web pages (more about these in a bit). For the most part though, I am quite pleased with my 650, and aside for more heap space and maybe more internal memory, things are really quite well with it.

So here's the rub of sorts, last week my laptop decided that it would only work in 5 minute bursts, and that wasnt working at all for me. Its a 3 year old Dell 600m that has been pushed a bit hard, and so I understand that now its ready to show its age some. The only thing is that outside of work, that left me with my 650 as my only computer. Not too much of a compromise in some respects, a lot of a compromise in others.

First, the compromises: I am a website developer, and prefer to design in Flash and then port to code where needed. Of course, I am also a fan of CSS. But the problem with just using a Treo is that I cannot get to all of the websties that I would like to, nor develop. Needless to say, I have lost a few possible side jobs becasue of this. There is also that issue of not being able to sync, and so I had to purchase On Guard, as a active backup solution since I need to use teh 650 more often and therefore need more dynamic backups (also got a 2GB SD card for $65, a nice steal). Doing any design work has been hard since the Blazer browser isnt so up to snuff on standards or readability. I actually prompted me to redesign my personal website, just because I want to be able to visit my site from time to time.

Now the good points: Well, I am more connected in some respects. Despite having more email addys than VersaMail can check, I have been able to stay on top of things. I do wish that VM allowed me to save mails to my SD card, as that would be good for archiving-ole' me. But I wont be changing to Snapper or anything else as those other solutions are just a bit more than my budget can handle right now. I have found that using my universal keyboard with the Treo to be a near pen and paper writing session for me. I feel a lot more personal in writing on the Treo. Kinda because its so close to me as a device, and not so much of a task like a computer is (where I am typing from work now). Its neat, and to a large extent, I can vibe with this convergance being the realization of real computing.

So yea, I am pushing my 650 a bit harder now. More so than ever just because I need something to do after work now that I dont have my game and DVD center up and going. I dont really mind though. I have gotten to bed earlier and gotten some really good quiet time. All in all, my PDA has really taken a load off more so than other computers have. And I like it that way.

Just wanted to post that here, seeing that this crowd is pretty neat about these things. Hope that you all arent as spartan as I (by want anyways). I'll be around here and there, and if I can figure thru the mobile settings again to save it as a fav, I'll check in from day to day more often. Peace and blessings.
