    Default Question about Security Lockout

Yesterday my Treo locked up. After trying a soft reset and system reset, I had to do a hard reset. After starting it back up, it asked for a password which I provided. Big mistake! Now, when I want to use it, it asks for a password to access this handheld. It's driving me nuts! Is there anyone out there that knows how to cancel this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello reneer,

This is Kevin from Palm. You should be able to use Security to delete the password. The Palm Knowledge Library article "Resetting my password and the handheld is unlocked" provides some basic background info and links for specific procedures. Hope that helps.

    Sincerely
    Kevin

    Default Question about Security Lockout

    Kevin,
Thanks for your reply. When I go into Security, the password is "unassigned" and the Auto Lock Device is on "never".

Is there anyplace else to delete the password?

    Hi reneer,

In other words, you completed the procedure (below) from one of the links supplied in that article, and when you next turn the device on, it still asks for the password?

Deleting a password from your Palm device

You can delete a password on your Palm handheld any time. To delete an existing password, do the following:

    1. Tap the Security icon in the Applications menu. The Security screen appears.
    2. Tap Assigned in the Password box. The Password screen appears.
    3. Enter your current password.
    4. Tap Delete. The Password is now deleted.

    Default Question about Security Lockout

When I go in to Security; the password is "Unassigned" and the Auto Lock Device is "never".
But when I want to use my Treo for anything, it goes to the Security Lockout screen; and says to "Enter Password to access this handheld computer".

Since you are entering a password, but the password field in the Security application is unassigned, the only other scenario I can come up with is that there may be some third-party application that is installed that is asking for a password. If that is the case, you would need to disable the password feature in that applicatication.

    Sincerely
    Kevin

Default Solution to this issue on my Treo 700p

On my 700p I had the same issue, and finally fixed it, I think. On my Verizon Treo, there is an app in the Apps list called Wireless Sync, and in there is a Security function. See if there is a password set there. If so, 'unassign' it and see if your issue is resolved.

Well, there you go, one possible solution for Verizon phones. Great post, John, I'll make note for future reference.
