Question on VZW service
I am using verizon when i get my treo from my uncle. Do i need a data plan? also can i still send messages like txt and pix and is there a way to block it on the treo and your plan so u dont get unknown charges

Every carrier is different on the features. Texting charges are not usually included with a data plan or in other words a data plan is not needed to text. Sending pics or connecting to the internet does use data. You need to check with verizon about a plan that will meet your needs. If you do not set up a username and password to access verizon your data plan should be blocked from charges. Double check with verizon.

Was the Treo used on Verizon by your uncle? If not, you could have an issue....

Yes it was used on the verizon network. He just got a blackberry and is giving this one to me

He will probably want it back after trying the blackberry! haha... You can store stuff on your card and sync to your pc then use what ever internet service to forward it on from your pc.

I am confused on what you are trying to say

Techman...sorry if I was not clear. The blackberry is a nice phone but it has drawbacks too. Even to get the wifi to work I hear you have to have a plan with blackberry to use free wifi!!
My comments about the card were to your first post about sending pics. You need a data plan or sync to your pc and send with your home/work internet.

Techman you can call verizon and have them block the data but you will not be able to use mms it will not work. There is a way to block data on the handset itself but it is a pain in the butt because anytime you want to send or receive mms you have to enable it but if your interested in that all you have to do is create a new network connection and use an alternative connection method. it will not be able to send or receive any data.
