Heh. Actually, I seem to remember that there were some effects found with power lines but they were causes by the ionization near the lines attracting airborne pollutants and having them all rain down on the homes underneath. Nothing found with the magnetic and electric fields though.

The depressing thing is, no matter how much the pseudoscience that gets bandied around about electromagnetic radiation is disproved/discredited, there are always more people waiting on the sidelines to leap up and put forward their "science" on the effects they have found.

Fact #1: the only recognised, documented and fully accepted effect of RF radiation on the human body is heating. Plain and simple.

Fact #2: the frequency of RF radiation puts it well below where ionization effects occur (the damaging effects of radioactive materials comes from its ionization), so if ( and it's a BIG BIG if) there is a mechanism whereby cancers are caused by RF then it's not the one that makes radioactive materials hazardous.

Fact #3: there are NO scientific studies that give results suggesting, with any reasonable certainty, that there are any negative effects from RF beyond localized heating. None.

Fact #4: A particular study has shown that the heating effect of a standard GSM phone running at full power while held next to a (SAR model) head results in a brain temperature rise that is absolutely dwarfed by the brain temperature rise experienced by someone ascending some flights of stairs at a reasonably fast rate.

Interesting side comment: there have been a couple of (inconclusive) studies that suggested (using experiments in rodents) that there are beneficial effects from RF exposure and associated heating.

I would put forward that the only reasonable conclusion to be made at this time is that if RF exposure at low levels (ambient, mobile phone output, broadcasting, etc - not standing next to a TV transmitter or using a defective and leaky microwave oven, for example) has any serious detrimental effects then they must be vanishingly tiny otherwise the large number of studies carried out to date would have found something somewhat more conclusive.

The upshot of this, if you agree with my hopefully reasonable conclusion above , is that any money you might spend on protecting yourself from this radiation would probably be better spent on improving one's lifestyle and dealing with the rather more glaringly obvious causes of ill-health in society today.
