Default RealPlayer skips

Any idea what I can do about RealPlayer sort of skipping or hiccuping when playing MP3 files? Seems to happen about every 8 seconds. Anyone else experience this?

Just a hunch, but have you tried encoding them at different compression levels?

No; didn't think of that. I'll give it a try. What's on the card now are all 32k bit rate and they all skip. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I just tried a song recorded at 320k bit rate - no skip. Must be compression related. Hope I can use something recorded at a lower bit rate than 320, though, or I won't be able to fit much on a 256 meg card.

good luck with the compression

you could always invest in a 1GB SD card, they hold an awful lot;)

At 320 bit rate, an album takes up about 125 - 150 megs, so even a 1 gig card only holds 6 or 7 albums. I'll try a lower bit rate.

One great thing about the Treo 650 is how fast it reads the card. My old Kyocera took about five minutes or more to figure out what was in the card and list the songs. The 650 does it pretty much instantly. Huge improvement.

All the Mp3's I have on Real Player are about 128k

This equals about 1MB per minute, most songs are about 4MB's depending on length of the song of course

Default I have the same problem but encoding is 192

I've got mine set at 192 yet they skip all the time on real player, whats the problem? Lower compression ratio does not fix it.

I do have a feeling that its flash card related, there needs to be a small buffer somehow.
