Regarding softwares that register against the hotsync ID
This is with software such as Callrec etc which register against your hotsync id. I would like to know what happens if you hard reset your Treo or freshly reload the Palm Desktop on your computer (maybe due to a new laptop or reloading the OS etc). Do these things change your Hotsync Id or will the hotsync id remain the same ?
What happens if i upgrade to a different Treo ? Is there a way to maintain the same hotsyc id or do we have to repurchase the software ?

When you execute a hard reset, the device returns for the most part back to its factory condition and that means it has no hot sync ID assigned to it. In order to get the same hot sync ID, sync it again with the desktop and choose the name you want for the device. If you choose a different hot sync ID, then all of the software that was registered with the previous hot sync ID will not run in the "registered" mode and will have to be re-registered with the new hot sync ID, which may incur a charge from the developer.
If you upgrade to a different Treo with the same OS and you use the same hot sync ID, then you do not have to re-do everything - EXCEPT for those applications that register with the device ID or do an Internet verification of the device ID at the time of original purchase compared to the time of the change. A number of companies are now doing this.

Hotsync id refers to the user name right ? Or is it something else ?
-
It refers to the user name that is chosen at the time an initial sync is done.
