Default reset every few hours?

good morning all. my treo seems to reset itself ever few hours or so. not sure why. I did install a i.m software "casurie"(im sure I'm spelling it wrong) but this software works fine with the treo.any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or what to do to solve this reseting?

Well, there's a way to tell which app caused the reset. Go to the built-in Phone app, and type in ##377 for Sprint , #*#377 for Verizon, #*377 if you have another (GSM) carrier. This may not be entirely accurate if you have several apps running in the background, but it's a start.
Alternately, you could use your uninstall program (you did install one of those first, right? ) to uninstall Causerie, and see if that resolves your reset issues.

the #*377, do I dail that? and I'm guessing its the i.m software cause its the only thing that's on here. I did have a pac man game but have since removed it (in the application menu)

Yes, you go to the default Phone app, and dial it just like a number. A dialog box should pop up telling you which app caused the reset, and the exact error message.

My Treo 650 keeps resetting itself. I typed in the code for Verizon Wireless and all it displayed was "Network". Any idea what that means?

I am not a betting man at all but would bet my paycheck that your new IM program is causing your problems. For what its worth, Agile Messenger was free and stable on my Treo. I wanted the ability for it to run in the background however and Agile didn't offer that. But it was stable. The easy way to tell is to delete the suspect app and see if stability doesn't return.

Thanks Stillrockin for the advice. However, I don't have any IM programs on my treo. It's still brand new so I think I only added Mobile Write, Treo Voice Dialing, a monthly planner and some TCPMP files. I guess I'll just have to do a process by elimination to find out which one is causing the problem.

BTW, does that mean you'll be sending your paycheck to me? LOL

Default Palm to Replace Defective Treo 650 SIM Trays

If you have a Treo 650 and have problems with it resetting read the below information:

Palm is now offering to replace defective SIM card trays on affected Cingular Treo 650 smartphones. There is an issue with some models that causes the phone to turn itself off spontaneously because of a loose SIM card.

The SIM tray is the removable plastic tray that holds the SIM card in place on GSM models. Certain Cingular models have had an issue with the trays becoming loose which causes the phone to turn off. Palm support has posted instructions to determine if your Treo needs a new tray.

If you determine that the old-style SIM tray is causing your smartphone's radio to turn off unexpectedly, you are urged to contact Palm's SIM tray hotline at 866-677-7256. Palm will mail you a new-style SIM tray to replace your old one.
Thanks to Engadget for the tip.

Ordering the Newer style SIM Tray
  • If it is determined that the old SIM tray is present, there is no need to return the device.
  • Palm will replace the part by sending a new SIM tray.
  • To receive the new style SIM tray, follow this process:
    1. Load the following URL: http://www.cingular.com/simtray
    2. Complete the required information and click Submit at the bottom of the form.
    3. Palm will be sending a new SIM tray within 1-2 business days.
I hope this helps.

If I am not mistaking, those SIM card trays that were defective were replaced almost a year ago. That isn't to say that there might still be some defective, but if you have bought your Treo recently, the ill fitting Sim Card Tray shouldn't be an issue. But that is correct! Those SIM Card Trays caused a lot of Headaches! And Cingular's solution was fold paper and place behind the tray until new ones could be produced!! And the funny part is that it worked!!!!!
