Default resetting screen over and over and over and...

I have to reset the screen multiple times a day. My last 650 had the same problem and after tech support trying to diagnose it, they sent me a new one. It worked fine for a few months and now this one is doing the same thing.

After some period of time, minutes or hours, the screen will become less and less usable. I simply cannot activate any buttons by touch or when I touch the screen here, it activates there. Very frustrating. I then have to reset the screen through the preferences panel. It'll work great for a short time. Any thoughts?

The first question of possibly a couple - when a hard reset is executed, does it work for an extended period of time, such as a couple of days or so? If it does, then that eliminates a hardware problem and puts it in the area of a software conflict.

Thanks for the response. It may be tough to diagnose because sometimes I will have to reset it several times a day. Other times it may go a couple of days with having to be reset. I think it depends on the volume of use. If it helps at all, when I notice that it's starting to get bad, it's in the corners that are hard to touch. It progessively gets worse and spreads to touchable items that are in the center.

    Hi:

Couple of questions....Did you upgrade from a previous Palm device. In syching, is it possible you loaded any older versions of Palm software onto the Treo.

Second, are you using screen protectors? If so, be careful of cutting them too wide. If the screen protector lays under the edges it can create odd screen responses. Dirt can also accumulate under the edges and cause problems too.

I don't know about an upgrade, but as I said, I switched phones earlier. It has always been the 650 model though. I'm fairly sure that I've only been synching the data, but I'm not clear on that.

I'm not using a screen protector. When I started having this problem with the previous phone I got rid of it thinking that it might be the cause. No such luck. This phone has never had a protector, but it is great shape. It's never been dropped or scratched in anyway.

If my screen was a spreadsheet and I touched E10, it would register the touch in B2, or maybe not at all. Very agrivating.

I don't have any third party software other than a few games. And yes, the phone's under warranty. I just don't want to keep switching out if the problem never goes away.

You are in luck. I would have them send you a new phone right away. Do not install any of your 3rd party stuff and see if everything is working ok. Then add stuff once you are sure the phone is fine.

You could do a hard reset and see if your phone works properly then reinstall your games again. I would definity use your phone a few days before you add or sync it to be sure this unit or the new one is working fine. Then sync and see if everything is fine then lastly add the 3rd party games.

rph13107, Welcome to ET Forums! Actually the games could be causing your problems. The above advice is dead on! Perform a hard reset and see if your device is stable. Don't sync it or do anything for a day or two . . See the resets? Screen not functioning properly? Its time to visit your local Treo dealer! If not, its time to slowly add back the games. One at a time to see if you can associate the installation with any problems you might be having. Whatever the outcome, keep us in the loop, and good luck!
