    Question Screen Problem. Please Help!

I just recently purchased a supposedly "new" Treo 650 on E-Bay and I've noticed half the time when the screen goes to sleep (turns off) I can't turn it on by pushing the red end call button like normally. I've contacted live help on the palm website twice and both said to hard reset which hasn't worked and one sent me to technical support which also said to hard reset but since it didn't work they said all they could do was have me send it in for repair for $199. Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or found a solution? Please i really need help.

    Hi and welcome to ET:

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Have you contacted the eBay seller to see if they stand behind their products? Was the box you received it in a sealed, shrink-wrapped one and included all the manuals, accessories, new battery not yet installed, etc? Or was it in a "white box"?

Is the Treo doing this out of the box, without syncing and with no data added and no third-party programs added?

The Phone was just wrapped in bubblewrap with the battery already in and all it included was the wall charger and usb cord. It has been synched and there are no third-party programs added.

Certainly doesn't sound like a new Treo to me.

    Two suggestions:
    1) Check to be sure you have the latest software version installed for your carrier..
    2) Hard reset the phone once again, but DO NOT sync. Use it for a couple of days as just a phone with nothing on it, including contacts or anything. This will tell you if the problem is hardware related or a software problem. If a hardware problem you should contact the eBay seller for a replacement.

    I hope this helps....

I think I figured out when the problem occurs. It seems to happen only when the battery is less than half full and most the time it happens when i let the screen go to sleep by itself. Is this a battery problem? And Stevetaz i have been doing ur suggestion also

Still sounds like a hardware problem. The screen should run when the battery is almost empty the same as when it is full.

When you say you are trying the suggestion, was that hard resetting and running it as just a phone to see if it still happens?

Please let us know if it does still occur. It just doesn't sound normal.

Sometimes on my 650 you would have to hold down the button for a few seconds to activate the screen. Usually a soft reset would correct this but not all the time.

yes Stevetaz, the suggestion was hard reseting it and not adding anything else on it and using it like that for a few days. But today it was a completely full battery and it was doing it again when i turned off the screen manually or let it go to sleep automatically. I tried several soft resets and it didn't fix it. Plunker, I've tried just pressing the button and holding it to turn on the screen and a combination of the 2. nothing works. Is this problem fixable?

Update: I never mentioned it was an Unlocked GSM. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it doesn't hurt to mention it.

hmmm...did you check to see if you are on the latest version? (steves suggestion) I don't think that is it here but I would try it. Do you have insurance or a warranty on your phone???

i check before to see if it has the latest software version installed and couldnt find anything but I just check again and found the Treo 650 updater 1.20 for Unlocked GSM units and mine is just a 1.05 not a 1.20. But when i try to install it I get this error:

"Your Non Branded CDMA device revision 1.05 cannot be updated to an Unknown device revision 1.20. Please check Palm's website for an update compatible with your device. Click OK to quit the updater."

That is exactly what the error said. I don't know if not being updated is causing this problem but if so i don't know how to update it. Please help?
