Default Sending text messages from my dekstop?

Hi,

I have just bought 2 treo 650 for my work place. How can I set up the office computer to send text messages to the 2 treos? Is there a program? should I use IM or something? Anyone have experience and what what we be the best way? I basically want the office person to be able to text message the 2 treos when they are out in the field.

Thanks
Jeff

Hi,

There's at least a couple ways to do it. If you have text messaging (SMS for Short Messaging Service) on the data account (depends on the cell/data carrier) you can use the desktop to send messages the Treos using regular email to the Treos text message account. Example, with Cingular, it would be something like (areacode+cell number)@cingular.com. Cingular's text messaging is limited to 140 characters per message, not sure about the others. Here's a Palm link on SMS:

You can also set up the built-in Versamail on the Treos to use a regular email account and to send receive email and to auto check for email as often as every 5-minutes. Several threads here on how to set it up as well as:

Ignore the Cingular text if your carrier is another company. The setup should be the same and there's links on the page for a Versamail User's Guide, Versamail setup video guide, etc. Also, a search box so you can find anything specific you're looking for.

A third way is using Xpressmail for corporate mail if you have Cingular or whatever the other carriers have. That, you'll need to search and/or contact your carrier for.

Hope this helps.
