Default Serial Cable Trick and Regular Cable

    Hello,

I'm new here and had a quick question. Hopefully someone can help me. I'm purchasing a 650 today and was told it could be used with the cricket service. I've downloaded the proper files to do this but the gentleman that sold it to me dosen't have a sync for it. My question is, I've seen the "Make your own serial cable" instructions by using a tungsten t5 cable and an older futuredial cable for the LG phones and am hesitant that this will work. Why can't I just purchase a regular usb serial cable made for the 650? I've searched around for awhile and haven't turned up any anwsers...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I would buy the serial cable before I tried to make one. You might look at a bluetooth (usb) for your pc. I believe that is cheaper than buying a cable.
Check out the treo store here for cables.

PS If you are going to buy one get one that will charge your treo also. There are many options.

Thank you, I rarely would be syncing with my computer...I've a more crazy use for it. I'm just trying to load up the right software now to use as a regular phone on the cricket service, but also working on getting it hooked up as an mp3 player through the car stereo system...I can't wait. Why do you think everyones talking about making your own cable when it's far cheaper just to buy one new? Is the homemade cable any different from the actual usb serial cable factory made for the 650?

Until I read your post I never heard of anyone making a cable. To load software and the right verison for your carrier I would use a cable instead of bluetooth.

If you are going to be loading mp3 I would look at a 2 gig card and a reader for your treo. The reader loads much faster than bluetooth or the sync cable.
