Default simple task manager wanted

Hi, I am wondering if there exists a simple task manager program for the 650 that will actually close down the programs instead of leaving them minimized. I read that when we use any programs on Palm they are merely minimized when we stop them instead of closing them down - this uses up RAM. I have a WM5 device also and I have a neat task manager that says "CLOSE ALL" which does just that - closes all minimized running programs. This frees up a lot of RAM. I did a board search but have been getting other results for TASK MANAGER.

Many thanks

Hi:

I am not sure I understand. Programs in Palm only run one at a time. I don't know what you mean they are minimized????

When you are using a program and start another program the first one is shut down as far as I know.

The 650 RAM situation is a product of not enough, not that multiple programs are using it at the same time.

To maximize your memory you should look into a program like ZLauncher and run as many programs and store as much as you can on a card instead of on the Treo. Note that programs which interact with things like the calendar, alarms and the like usually require they be in the Treo memory in order to properly function.

Please clarify if I have misunderstood you.

Hi Steve,

No, you understood perfectly. I was under the incorrect assumption, that like my WM5 device, the Palm OS also could run several apps at once. On my WM5 device, if you close an app, it still remains open but minimized in memory for quick opening again. I installed a task memory which you could then manually close all open apps. Now that I understand correctly that the Palm OS does not operate that way, I am fine. Yes, I am going to install zLauncher, I have heard good things about it. I also bought a 2GB SD card for any installed apps.

May I ask please, do you recommend installing the zLauncher to main memory or can it operate on a card? Thank you so much for your help.

I love my Treo

zLauncher must be installed to RAM. The program itself will not work properly if installed to the card. However, Sounds, backgrounds and themes may be kept on the card while they are not in use.
