SMS Messages

Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum.
I have a Treo 650. I use SMS to text. I never delete conversations from my phone from certain people.
I've noticed that only part of the message is displayed. Without them being deleted, are they still there where I can access the older areas of that persons texts? And if they are still in my phone, how do I access them? I need to get a conversation that covers a month ago til now. Any help????

When you use SM to reply to a text message, the Treo creates a "chat thread," which will append any new text to that message. When you launch SMS, you're presented with a of your chat threads. To continue a chat thread to a particular person, tap that thread, enter your text at the bottom, and tap Send. Your message will be added to the thread and sent to the recipient. To see all messages in the thread's history, just use the scroll bar to scroll back. Nothing is deleted unless you manually delete or purge. (TIP: do delete everything but one or two threads/messages, select the message(s) you want to save, go to menu Message -> Lock, and then go to menu Message -> Purge... and purge all.)

I'm not sure what you mean about partial message displays. I've got a of chat thread going back over a year and everything is viewable if I scroll back far enough.

If I remember correctly on the 650, wasn't there a messaging / prefs choice to have messages displayed as chats? It may need to be selected.

I understand what you are saying only mine doesnt scroll back to everything that has been said. I only have a small scroll area to access for some reason? I need the conversation that has begun from awhile back (months). I havent deleted the conversation at all. It might only show a days worth of conversation.

This is intriguing! My SMS exchanged with the same party have always occurred as scrollable chats. This has happened automatically, and I know of no relevant setting, preference, or configuration. I searched the web and also came up with nothing.

To quote from the Treo 650 User Guide (p 67):
Chatting with text messaging
When you exchange more than one text message with a single contact, your
messages are grouped into a chat session.

This seems pretty clear. I know that SMS chat threads are handled differently on the 700w but if you've got a 650 then your SMS app is functioning in an unfamiliar way. I'd give Palm a call unless anyone here has other ideas.
