Some stuff synchs, some doesn't
My friend just upgraded from a Kyocera to a Treo 650 with Verizon. He was able to get his info off of the computer to the Treo. But now, when he tries to synch he gets:
OK Quick Install OK Memos Calendar synchronization failed Contacts synchronization failed Tasks synchronization failed Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
My suspicion is that he messed up his username. The name on his Kyocera was "johndoe". The name on his Treo is "John Doe".
I tried uninstalling the desktop software and reinstalling it. I downloaded Mulliner's ChangeName program and changed it to "johndoe" on the Treo.
After I changed the name, it did appear to synch more things that it wasn't synching before. But those three main databases still refuse to synch.
I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions on things to try next?
Thanks,
Drake

You might try a search here for "sync" . I think when you use data ( or programs) from an older palm you have to copy data from the old data base to the new palm data base. I remember reading a couple of threads about problems but I have never synced anything but current stuff to the treo.
You might check Faq on this site.

He and I have both been using Palm OS devices for years, and this is the first time either of us have had a problem syncing to a new unit. Normally, we just plug in the new device and sync and it Just Works.
The info did make it from the computer to the Treo on the first sync. And some databases appear to be synching even now. So there's something else going on.
I did try a few searches before posting this message. Both on Google and here in this forum. I'll continue searching.
Still open to more ideas and suggestions.
Thanks.

Hello Mighty,
This is Kevin from Palm. Not certain if this will help, but give it a try. On the Treo, open Wireless Sync > Open the menu > Setup > Connection Settings > Advanced > Check "Enable Other Sync Apps".
Hope that helps.
Sincerely
Kevin

Thanks, Kevin. I'll pass that along and post back with results.

Having the same problem...
Hi, Drake -
Have you found the answer yet - I'm having the same problem, and remain stumped.

My friend told me the other day that on a whim he tried it again, and that it worked. He didn't do anything that he knows of that should have affected it.
I'm not a big fan of magic fixes. I prefer knowing what happened and knowing that I addressed the problem. Sorry I don't have a real solution.
