I downloaded a volume program that allowed me to disable the headset function and am now able to use the phone as a handheld. Very disappointing after spending so much money on this product. Anybody out there know if there is anyway to effect a repair on this problem so I do not have to disable the headset functionality? Other than the poor telephone audio camcorder issues the device is great.
    Thanks!

This just started happening to my treo 650 15mos old. Does palm address this issue. My phone is in the shop and noone here in the caribbean can figure out the problem. Will retrieve it and try the hard reset and hot sync etc. But i was beginning to thing it was an internal computer problem. Thank you guys. This has been most helpful.

    Hi jazzi:

Were you using a wired headset or headphones with your Treo in the 15 months before the problem appeared? When you bought it did you buy it new or was it used?

Is the speakerphone option present or missing when the problem happens?

You may have the headphone jack problem not uncommon with the Treo 650.

    Hi SteveTaz:
I bought it unlocked from a Palm store in Atlanta Airport. So it came with the earplugs. THe problem first started after using the earplug so i bought a new palm ear plug where i can play my music but can't answer the phone- noone hears me and vice versa. So no earplug use now. But now it seems like when i use the camera or just simply plugging it in to charge, once disconnected the ringer rings, i see who is calling but once i answer no audio on either side. But once it rest overnight in the morning its happy and working again. But will do the hard reset today and let you know if anything changes.

Hi, just wanted to post this application you can install that bypasses the headphone jack in a Treo 650 to possibly correct this sound issue, which is apparently genetic in some 650's. You have to already have the basic
Volume Care application installed on your Treo 650, which boosts the sound level abilities on the phone, and then headset bypass app installs itself into the Volume Care app:

Here is the link to basic Volume Care which you must have already installed:

I have had the same problem a couple of times just go into prefs then under the communication header click on the handsfree option and change auto answer to "immediately" this worked for me, good luck.

Lot of threads about the wired headset getting bumped or the phone dropped causing problems....never use the hard wired headset with your phone. When the speaker phone option is not available the contacts are stuck in the jack. You might try a test call and wiggle the jack around to see if you get the spraker phone option back. There is volume care that has a work around that helps sometimes...

I can't imagine them still selling 650's since they seem to be discontinued by most carriers..try and get them to upgrade you to a more modern treo..
