    Question Speaker Malfunction

    I have a treo 650 with Cingular and it's a year old.

The problem I am having is that my speaker has blown. I beleive this is a hardware problem, but I'm not sure. So, now, I cannot use the speaker function during a conversation and when the phone rings, it will only vibrate.

I can use my bluetooth with no problem.

I do hear, on occasion, squawks and squeals coming from the phone when it rings. But that's really rare.

I've not dropped the phone nor has it been affected by water.

And, according to Cingular, my warranty has run out.

Does anyone know how to fix this or know where I can take it to be fixed in the Los Angeles area? Or, is there a software fix?

    Thanks!

Your speaker being "blown" or broken cannot be fixed by software...unless it isn't physically broken. Unfortunately, from what you have described, it sounds like it is. As far as service centers, I am not sure about any in your area. If you can find a replacement speaker; either Google or a techie friend will help; then you would be one step closer to fixking it. Then you would have to search (and I've seen them out there) for instructions on disassembling the phone. Solder in the new speaker and you should be in business!

EDIT: I found a great and somewhat cheap site for parts...just to get ya started!
