    Default Voice recognition

Does anyone know if there is a voice recognition program for the treo? Well more for typing. Iknow you can open programs, and call people, and also open texts with some programs, but once you open i text, could you say letters, and the treo would type them? Any ideas?

There are several. A word about them though - I beta tested the big guy on the block and yes it works - but the environment is a real important factor. Loud noise - forget it. Wind - forget it. None of the voice recognition applications works 100% of the time.

Before buying test it in the environments you expect to use it in.

I agree with benjie. I did the trial of VoiceDialIt (or was it VoiceDial?) and wasn't impressed. If you have anymore than minimal background noise, then you will amuse bystanders (names changed to protect the innocent):
    Treo: "Say a command."
    Me: "Call John Doe."
Treo: "Did you say call Mike Johnson?"
    Me: "No."
Treo: "Did you say call Don Brody?
    etc.

    Default Not worth the RAM

I have tried nearly all of them. While they work ok, they don't work well enough to justify the amount of RAM they occupy.

I agree. The large apps need to offer a lot of functionality, or at least be able to exist on the SD card, or they don't last long on my Treo.

As far as I know, there are no apps out there that will type letters as you say them. Not that you'd want one; as folks have said above, even the voice recognition apps that launch or dial are not ready for prime time. This has been my experience as well. If you were to find such an app, you'd say "T-R-U-C-K" and it'd probably spell "daisy".

Personally, I think it's a bit sad that a voice-oriented gadget like the Treo has no built-in voice memo or voice dialing capability. One of my three major quibbles (none of which have been addressed by any Treo to date).
