stuck - another infinite rebooter
I've searched through this forum and seen several other threads mentioning a similar problem, but none with a solution.
I am on vacation in Turkey and have a Treo provided by my job, with MS Exchange connected. It has worked OK so far but has rebooted itself several times for no apparent reason. Today I was reading my email and hit delete on a message and got an assertion error message (I didn't write down the error). I couldn't bypass it - hit OK and it kept popping up new errors of the same type. Eventually I removed the battery. When I replaced it a minute later the thing rebooted and the after reaching the Palm One screen instantly started rebooting again. It does this continually until I remove the battery.
What I have tried:
- Removing the battery for up to an hour and replacing it.
- Reset
- Soft reset (with the up button)
- Hard reset. The hard reset asks me to delete all data, I say yes with the up button, and then it instantly returns to infinite reboot.
- Removed the screen protector, since I saw someone post that it might be interfering.
- Removing the sim card and powering up without.
I don't have a link cable here, and am using the web from the hotel computer. It's pretty important for me to have access to exchange and a phone, so I and my office will be extremely sad if I can't fix this.
Thanks for any advice!

What Apps have you installed lately?
Some apps may cause a conflict.
-
I have only installed an ssh client - TuSSH. It seemed to work fine for several days. It wasn't running when it crashed. I wouldn't know how to uninstall it though since it isn't responding to anything..

You say you've hard reset your treo.
Are you using somekind of back-up from an SD card?
-
I have no cards. I tried the hard reboot as a last resort only. It didn't seem to do anything really.. not even any indication that it was deleting anything.
-
That's a bit weird, when you do a hard reset it should go back to the factory settings, it doesn't sound like it's deleted anything.
you could try to hard reset again, but anything application or even your contacts will be lost.
If you manage to gain access to any of the menu try to delete the last thing you installed.

I've tried hard reset 3 times no difference. I did notice if you hold down the down arrow while you reset the screen will blank and the keyboard light will blink on and off continually until you reset again. Interesting but not helpful.

I've found these hard reset instructions maybe they will help:
How to perform a hard reset on a Treo 650:
WARNING: This will erase all your data!
1. Open the battery cover and locate the Reset button.
2. Press and hold the reset button with the tip of your stylus.
3. Press and hold the power button (on front).
4. Release reset button, while still holding down the power button. The device will begin to power up. Continue to hold down the power button through the PalmOne progress bar screen.
5. Release the power button once the screen has the circular Palm Powered logo.
6. A confirmation message will appear, asking you if you REALLY want to delete everything and reset your device to factory settings. Press the UP button for a hard reset. Press any other button for a soft reset.
7. Sync your device to restore data. I recommend looking at your conduit settings before performing your initial sync... you may need to select "Desktop overwrites handheld" on some third-party conduits.
I'm sure you know how to hard reset, but maybe you pressed something by accident. Wish i could get it working for you

Yup I've done the hard reset just like that already.

Yet still, another treo 650 infinite rebooting loops
my treo 650 of 18 days old does the same infinite rebooting loop. I am wondering how this "smart Device" can behave in this dumb way. i have tried every prescribed remedy including zero reset but still no deal. I am contemplating returning to palmone but I welcome any non-invasive remedy.
