is you cable plugged in all the way? Sometimes my cable isn't in exactly rights and the sync wont start. Will the unit charge? Have you tried unplugging it from the cable and reconnecting?

tried everything!
cable is plugged all the way as there is sufficient charge

who is your phone service with? Have you. Have you tried to check if you have had a reset for fatal error and if so what is the message? That may give you more clues on what to look for as the culprit. Have you added any new programs. Also something could have changed your conduits and how they sync set your setup on your desktop. Just a few more suggestions. If that does not work do a search through the threads. There is a guy with Palm who roams the forums at ET I think his name is Kevin Michaels. He can point you to the right place(s0 or one of the moderators like Still Rockin or kdallen or kreth

Hi Mike:
On a different direction...How old is your Treo and the cable? Connector problems are not that uncommon. I recently had some troubles with my 18 month old cable and my bosses brand new cable didn't seem to work either. Sometimes I would get the "Unknown device..." message and other times no message on the computer, just a "Time out..." message on the Treo. It began as once in a while and graduated to I could no longer sync. I was starting to wonder if the sync software became corrupted. Then the last connector's thin metal gave out, but I think that might have been the charge connector.
I have seen notes regarding cable problems through the years and I recalled seeing that using a cradle instead of just a cable alleviates on-going connection issues.
Well, I bought a cradle, connected it using one of the sync cables that didn't work (note the cradle doesn't come with its own cable) and voila!!! It connected first try and hasn't failed since.
Just a thought and I hope it helps,
SteveTaz

stevetaz's suggestions are good ones and a possibility. My treo is on cingular and you turn on the phone app and dial #*377 and dial and if you have had a rest from an error it will give you a message maybe with some code that will tell you were the problem is that caused the reset. If that does not work and you can get another cable perhaps from a friend with a treo and see if that cable works. If not then you should backup you data and trying uninstalling the program or programs that you just installed and try to synch without those programs and see what happens. If that works to get you going before reinstalling that program check and make sure that its compatable with the 650. Good luck

Have you checked your usb port to see if you have lost the settings??It sounds like your computer is not seeing the treo...
