Default Sync with Palm Desktop only

Anyway to NOT synch with outlook? I don't want all of my outlook contacts on my treo (I have a million!). I imported two lists into my palm desktop list and I have my SIM card list. That's all I want. Unfortunately when I sych though it's not syching with my desktop. I do not receive an error, but nothing is being exchanged between computer or phone. What the h?!

I think if you pop your Palm Desktop installation CD back into your PC, the screen that comes up should have an option to choose your Hotsync source - Palm Desktop or Outlook and you can change them here too.

    Hi:

Sounds like when you installed the Treo on your PC you selected Outlook as the PIM. If you left or right click on the Hotsync icon in your tray and then select Custom, what do you see next to the Contacts listing as well as the others? Does it show "(Outlook) Syncronize the files"?

You could change that conduit to "Do nothing", but that just solves the immediate contacts problem. Do you want to use the Palm Desktop for all your PIM needs or do you want to use Outlook for everything but contacts?

Dollface's suggestion would be the best to change everything over to the Palm Desktop.

This is a great thread - exactly what I'm looking for. However, I have one additional problem. I do not have the installation CD for Palm Desktop. I had to download the desktop directly from Palm and the ActiveSync file directly from Microsoft.

Can anyone here shed light on how to change the settings in ActiveSync to sync with Palm Desktop only and NOT Outlook if you don't have the installation CD?

I've already tried starting over, deleting my mobile device and running the setup wizard, but for some reason it doesn't give me an option to choose a different PIM.

This is important to me because I exclusively use Yahoo Calendar and Gmail and never use Outlook.

    Thanks for your help!

I thought the Palm Desktop would only Hotsync with Palm OS devices. You say you downloaded MS's Activesync, that is for Windows Mobile devices. I am sure someone else will post to confirm this.

Okay, so now you can tell I'm a newbie. Great with computers, totally inexperienced regarding the Treo.

    I failed to mention that I have a 700w.

Maybe I should restate my question, given the very insightful post by dollface...heck, maybe I should even start a new thread.

I exclusively use Yahoo Calendar and would like to sync it with my Treo 700w. I have downloaded Yahoo's Autosync program, which directs me to use Palm Desktop 4.1.4 if I want to sync with that program. (BTW, Yahoo's Autosync does not work with newer versions of Palm Desktop...I've already been down that road)

How can I most efficiently sync my Treo 700w with Yahoo Calendar?

Gadgetgal, copy your post to the 700 wx forum and you may get a better answer. We are mostly palm users since the 650 is palmos, though there is a few users here with both...
