Synching Hangups

Today and yesterday I have repeatedly gotten stuck during hotsync. The hotsync gets to a certain point - usually something to do with Versamail, but not always the same point in versamail synching, and then it just sits there. When I cancel from the handheld, it says "Cancelling" for ever. When I attempt to cancel from the computer hotsync function, it says "This may take 1 minute" but sits for 20... and finally, to end the hang up requires rebooting both my computer AND the treo.

You may have a currupt message database. You can try disabling the Versamail conduit, to see if that allows you to sync normally. If it does, then I would try deleting Versamail's message db.

Deleting Versamail's message db? How? And what would that mean? Would I lose all existing messages?

I assume by "Disable Versamail conduit" you mean in preferences deselecting versamail as a sync option?

This article on Palm's website explains how to do it. Yes, you will lose all the messages on the Treo, but it won't affect the messages on the server.

No, I mean disabling it in Hotsync Manager. Just change the action to "Do Nothing."

What the boss has failed to say is that this is a major concern with Versamail. Do you have a previous backup that you can install from a successful sync? That will save you some of your mail.

There are other email applications that do not experience this problem. Ben
