Synchronization Failure - Treo Forums

I have two treo 650's. One syncs to Palm desktop without trouble. The other synced the first few times but now fails to sync. I have tried the things recommended on the PalmOne suppport site but nothing works(checked/cleaned contacts, soft reboot, etc). The best I've been able to do is get the Treo and PC to communicate briefly and generate a sync failure message- "HotSync exchange synchronization failed" "Unknown error: FE00".

It's most likely either a bad port on your Treo, or a corrupted file on the Treo. Have you tried syncing via IR or Bluetooth?

yes, I have synced (successfully)via bluetooth on another computer (Mac) as I don't have bluetooth on my PC. But the funny thing is the Mac would only identify that Treo as if it were my other Treo - ie. I have my Treo names "Donald Tatum" and my other Treo is "Stephanie Tatum", but it id's "Stephanie" as if it were "Donald" and overwrites my files.

Now my Palm won't synch and for some reason the options under HotSynch are all greyed out in the Palm Desktop app. I was looking at the cable, does one of the contacts stick out further than the rest? There's 13 little slits w/ 5 contacts sticking out , if the first slit on the left is 1 than; there are contacts sticking out of the 6,10,11,12 & 13 position. The contact on the 10th position is sticking out more than the rest. Is that normal?

Um... you should have contacts in each slot.
EDIT: nevermind, that's a sync & charge cable. The Palm cable is as you described. Does your PC recognize the Treo when you plug in the cable?

I uninstalled the Palm Desktop software and re-installed it. That seems to have fixed my problem, but I am not really sure what happened...

I happened again yesterday, for no apparent reason really. Nothing new installed or changed... it has to be the cable, the palm or the software...

Normally if the options are grayed out, the hot sync manager is not enabled. Ben

That's a good point. Every once in a while, I have to shut down HotSync Manager and restart it.
