Tech Help on Updates
Hi,
Appreciate this site and the help that is offered. really great.
I am learning more and more about my treo650 thru trial and error everyday.
I have an unlocked GSM model new from Singapore i believe.
My software version is: Treo650-1.13-APR
I understand the APR indicates my model to be a chinese version. Box indicates that it operates in English and Simplified Chinese & Trad Chinese Environments. Anyway it is all in English. Except that time i clicked on CJK OS.
I found an Updater (Treo_650_Updater_1_20_APR.exe) which i have now downloaded yet not installed as yet.
Does anyone know if this is a safe procedure and should it be attempted if my phone is currently running smoothly?? Please advise.
Another related question. My Bluetooth Manager is: v. 1.0(W) what is yours??
Will this be updated with the Updater-1.20?? I understand my Bluetooth headset requires v. 1.1 or higher to work with my 650. Is this true? I am still having trouble pairing the device. It was paired earlier. I have recently had to do a hard reset and since then it will not find it.
I am not sure what my treo software version was before the hard reset. As mentioned it is currently: Treo650-1.13-APR. Can a hard reset take my phone back to an earlier version of the software??? I wonder if it was version 1.20 before the reset. Or is the OS and orignal software built in and not changeable.
I would really appreciate some feedback on the above issues.
Kindly,

Firmware updates usually run smooth. That being said, make sure it's the correct update for your phone. Also, what improvements does it bring to the table. If your Treo is running fine without any issues, you might want to sit tight.

This is normal. I just checked my Cingular Treo 650 - with the latest firmware and Bluetooth Manager is 1.0 (W). The Treo 700p uses Bluetooth Manager 1.2 (W).

It won't change the version or bring it back to an earlier version. Think of firmware as "hard coded". It basically brings your default apps and settings back to a default setting. It's particularly helpful when your Treo starts performing erratically due to third party software or something along those lines.
