Things are different
Hi! I searched fo rmy problem, but I can't seem to fid anything quite like it, plus I'm new so Hi, Everyone!
Ok, so two days ago I downloaded the Palm Desktop software from the Palm website for my laptop because the disk drive is really funky and I can't get it to work all the time. I already have the Palm software on my desktop mac and everythign has been working fine, but I wanted it on my laptop so I could install things on my 650 on the fly.
Everything seemed ok, until I was looking for a MIDI ringtone I installed and I realized that all my ringtones, even the ones that came with the phone were different. I started going through them and some of them are the ringtones that I've heard coming out of my friend's 600 AND the MIDIs I'd installed were gone.
So I figure, ok, I'll reinstall the software that came with the phone on my desktop again, synch my treo and see what happens. So it gives me that restet the phone screen that I've read about. Curious. I do it and everythign was exactly the way it was. Rogue ringtones and all.
Does anyone know what I did, and is there a way to reset the original software without changing or losing all the stuff I have on my phone?
Again, sorry if this is a total noob question, but I'm having a hard time finding answers on my own.
Thanks!!!

One More Weird Thing
Ok. So I just opened up Versamail for the first time. Everythign was fine, then after I clicked "get" it said the phone is turned off, would you like to turn it on. Since I had just reset I figured, Oh duh, sure. Then I get a Sprint screen. A SPRINT SCREEN!
I have Verizon Wireless.
OMG have I trashed my tre in less than three weeks?!?!?

Rogue ringtones, mysterious Sprint splash screens?
Did you buy this phone used?
You might want to consider syncing to the desktop and then doing a hard reset. Start fresh.

No, I bought it brand new and at great expense, I might add.
It was probably some crap feeware I downloaded. Can anyone recommend a freeware site that isn't total amature rubbish that will destroy my treo?

You have to be real careful with freeware, but I guess you probably know that. Add it sparingly. This way, if you have issues with your Treo, it's easy to pinpoint the problem. I'd suggest looking more at "shareware" or there are some great low cost programs/utilities that really make a difference with the Treo. Butler is one that comes to mind.

I'm still stumped on this one. That's real odd. Even freeware shouldn't cause this.

Ok. I did a hard reset, checked the ringtones, golden! No Sprint screen, rad! Then, I Hotsync-ed as a sort of control for the test to see what would happen. As I suspected it would, the roguetones were back and a skin I downloaded for the screen keypad came back along with a bunch of stuff off the disk that came with the phone (Versamail, Solitaire, etc)
Alright, so I downloaded something that changed my system stuff, I guess. So, now I performed another hard reset, and prior to Hotsync-ing again I clicked on the conduit settings and selected "do nothing" for the install conduit. At this point I was pretty much looking through Hotsync Help and following my nose.
After the second reset and hotsync without the install conduit everythign is back to normal. I still have my contacts, but none of my custom junk.
So now i have another question. How do I manage whatever the install conduit was managing? Can I see what's going on with that and, like, delete the crap on it? I mean all I wanted was pink phone buttons and the theme from Zelda as my ringtone! Not so much to ask.
Thanks!
P.S. Sorry for the really long post, but I wanted to be thorough.

I believe the stuff you're trying to avoid is in the backup folder. Find your Palm folder on your computer. It should have your User Name. In that folder is a Backup folder. Check to see if any of the "junk" is still in there. Create a new folder (somewhere on your computer) and move what you think is junk there -- you can delete this at a later date. I believe that's the issue. The object of this folder is if you ever have to do a hard reset, you're programs (and in this case some extra junk) is on your PC and goes back to the Treo.
Hope this makes sense...
