Question thinking of converting from Ipaq 4700

Hope you expert can help!

Due to #s of email coming in while I am on the road, I use the Nextel Blackberry. I also carry a sprint phone (better evening hours...). I use My ipaq for calendar, appointment, read MS word, MS excel, MS Access, PDF files...

Can the Treo do all the function of the Ipaq 4700? IF the treo 650 is capable of replacing the ipaq, how hard is it to learn?

Can I use the treo to access web sites?

Last but not least, can the Treo replace the blackberry? With the Push email tech, I know it is hard to beat. How fast is it to access emails with the Treo 650?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for your help!

Yes and the Treo is very easy to learn. It runs on the Palm OS which has been around for a very long time. A number of the same mobile application manufacturers make the same apps for the Palm as with the Windows PocketPC platfrom.

Not sure about Access, but everything else can be done on the Treo. In some cases, you might need 3rd party software.

Yes, it comes with Blazer which is the Palm version of IE.

There are several email applications for the Treo -- I'm partial to Snappermail. If you are talking about corporate email, then check with your IT department. There are several apps that offer synchronization with Outlook Exchange, Lotus, etc.

Default follow up

regarding blazer - palm IE. Can I view it (layout...) just like my home computer? BB just came out with a new software allowing this feature.

Snappermail - basically when new emails come in, it notifies you by beeping the treo 650? As an user, have you experienced any negative?

I am told that Sprints is going to upgrade their web service. Would this Treo become obsooooooooooluttttttttttttttte?

Thanks so much,

DQ

Not sure I understand your question. Who is BB? It's a PDA web browser, so it's not exactly Firefox, but it does a good job. There are also other browsers available for the Palm OS such as Xiino.

You can set SnapperMail to fetch mail on intervals and set notifications.

With every new Treo, it's been vastly improved. Can it get better. Yes. However, in my opinion, it's the best device in terms of convergence. I say that in terms of capability, form factor and design. The Treo 650 is a stunning device.

I wouldn't say the Treo 650 is anywhere near obsolete. There will always be new products -- be it the Treo 700 or whatever is next. However, it's been rumored that we wont' see such a device until Q1 of 2006.

With technology, you can always chase the next big thing. For me, I was chasing the Powerbook G5. Reality set in that it wasn't going to happen any time soon (due to the heat of the G5 chip) and purchased my Powerbook in May. I'm sure Apple will update the line, but I'm using the hell out of my Powerbook and love it. No regrets at all.
