Default TomTom GPS Not Recognizing on Treo 650 ( Cingular )

Hello to all,

I just bought the Tom Tom Navigator 5 with Bluetooth GPS for my Palm 650 Treo.

My Palm is updated with the latest firmware updates as of today.

PROBLEM: The TomTom Wireless GPS MKII does not recognize on my 650.

The Bluetooth software says nothing and the TomTom software says: NO GPS DEVICE

Now with my Logitech Headset I have to pair the device with my Palm, BUT there is no instructions on how to pair the TomTom GPS device?

Also, In the Navigator 5 software there is an option to choose your GPS device and I did choose the TomTom Wireless GPS MKII and set the code to 0000.

Any help in getting this to work would be greatly appriciated.

Best,

Don

Smile Found The Problem

I am so mad they don't put this in the manual!!!

So, what you do is turn on the GPS reciever outside of your apartment of house so you can get a signal.

Then when the green light starts blinking start your TomTom Nav 5 Software and it should reccognize the GPS reciever.

Why palm doesn't add this as a trusted device I will never know....

Cheers,

Don

Hi,

There has been put posts about this topic, So I'm copy/pasting it for you for your benefits...

You have been able to get things working...but the followings, can be some usefull information anyway...

STEP 1:installing gps device to trusted devices

1. There is a way to enable a quick connection with the GPS receiver. By re-adding your GPS device to the 'Trusted Devices' on your Palm OS, this connection will be enabled (automatically when starting up TomTom)

For a quick/manual connection this is what you should do (when TomTom fails to do so).

1. switch on the Bluetooth GPS receiver
2. Switch on the Bluetooth on your Palm (by ticking on the Bluetooth icon)
3. Press 'Setup Devices'
4. Press 'Trusted Devices'
5. Press 'Add Device'
7. Make sure that you have selected 'Show: 'Nearby devices'
8. In the screen you will be shown the device, 'BTGPS'. Select the GPS and then 'OK'
9. U might be asked for a password, check out the manual of the GPS receiver for this..
10. Tick/Press 3x 'Done' to leave the 'Bluetooth' application

( you have setup the GPS device, when starting up bluetooth next time, etc. So when TomTom is being started, Bluetooth should also been started and with that the connection will be enabled with your device)

11. Now start the TomTom application

The connection with your receiver has been enabled. When your GPS device has been able to make a GPS fix with the satellites, you can start navigating...

FYI: GPS-fix (connection with satellites for GPS position) can only be done in clear areas..not indoors!! (sometimes with a strong GPS receiver, its possible to receive some signals indoors....but, to get things working....recommended to try and do outdoors/in clear area)

STEP 2 -Check out GPS status in TomTom

If you are sure that the GPS receiver and Palm is connected via Bluetooth, you can check out what TomTom says in the GPS status.

1. start the TomTom application
2. tick on screen to go to the Main Menu (page 1/3)
3. tick on Change Preferences
4. by ticking on the arrow-icon in the preferences menu, you can go to the next page
5. go to page 'Preferences 4/6' and select 'GPS Status'

GPS STATUS:
you will the find the currenct gps status. The circle on the right side (top) should be turning around/circling. If not, than this is an indication, that your Palm and the GPS device are not properly connected.
If it's running, than everything is OK according to the GPS status of TomTom.
Check if the columns are coloured. they should become blue when you have a GPS fix with the satelites (outdoors in the open sky, not indoors).

Possible solution if above is not the case:
Check out if the baudspeed in the TomTom application has been set into '4800'.

In the GPS status screen you find 'change' left below, thats where you can check out the baudspeed.

Still nothing happens???

Check out if your GPS receiver is compatible for the TomTom application

Still nothing happens??
Last suggestion: try re-installing your GPS device on Palm to the trusted devices for bluetooth.

GOod luck
