Touch screen died
Hi,
I managed to lose my Treo 650 in a snow covered parking lot and found it about 90 mins later after someone may have driven over it. Surprisingly, the phone works ok with the exception of the touch screen. It lights up and displays correctly however it no longer responds to touch. There seems to be water trapped between the cover of the screen and the screen itself.
I will attmept to dis-assemble the phone and let it dry out completely in an attempt to revive the screen. The only vivible damage to the case is some severe scratches on the battery cover. This is what leads me to believe that a car drove over it or at least partially over it.
My questions are: is there anything else I can do to get the screen to work again other than this? As I said, it seems fine except tha it won't respond to touch. The other questions is if I have to replace the phone, which model should I go with, the 680 or the 750? I kinda need to stay with Cingular unfortunately, or pay the $175 early termination fee. Thanks for your help!

Pull your battery OUT!! Let the phone dry for a few days and/or use a hairdryer on the screen. If it is covered under warranty let them fix it...if not you could buy and install a new screen. Do you have a screen protector on the phone? You may have cr-p stuck around the edges between the screen and protector.

Drying it out
Hi Plunker,
Thanks for the reply. I did dry the phone well and had to do a soft reset after I picked it up from the snow. I already removed the protecter from the screen and the "wet spot" seems to be getting larger as time goes by. I really don't think that I have a snowballs chance..... to get this covered under wattanty because of the deep scratches on the battery cover.
I found a screen for sale from PDAParts.com for $100, which is more than I paid for my phone. I hope that a good drying will solve the problem. I will let everyone know how I make out.

Problem Solved....
Hi,
Latest news, I was unable to get my touch screen to work after disassembling the unit so I decided to pick up a new 680. the thing is I like the 680 better! It is smaller and lighter, and there a few tweaks to the phone that make it nicer to use. Also, the Bluetooth is much better on the 680 relative to the 650, I thought I had a poor earpiece when it was the phone causing the static.
Have a day,

My experience exactly! The only downside to the 680 vs the 650 is battery life! I am a heavy data user and have found that while at the office, I must keep the Treo on a Charger! I am considering upgrading the battery, but haven't taken the plunge yet . . I can get a full day out of it with gentle use, but on days that I use data/voice heavily, the battery can become an issue! But I love the size, and phone interface tweaks!
