Default Trading Sidekick2 for Treo 650

Brand new here. Decided to do some research on the 650 before I plunged. I see how great it is now thanks to this site. I've long outgrown the sidekick 2 and the 650 will much better suit me. Mp3 player, can view excel files, better email client, better web browser, can use as a modem for my laptop. The guy has the 650..had a sidekick before that..and now wants a sidekick again. Beats me but I'm not going to argue. Getting his 650 and bluetooth stuff for my sidekick2 with extra colored sides and an extra $125 because it's in bad shape but functioning. I think it's a steal. Going to make the deal tmrw night.

Any problems transferring to the treo? I'm thinking I just stick my simcard in, since it's unlocked, and then i contact Tmo about it and tell them i want to cancel the sidekick plan and get the unlimited data plan and keep my same talk plan.

For the mp3 player..i realize that the phone uses a bluetooth headset, but is there a hole on the phone itself for a set of stereo headphones like u'd use on an ipod?

Also, does the 650 have the ability to view adobe acrobat files..pdf files? and how about powerpoint documents? I'm a biology student and a lot of the files I use are in that format.

Thanks for the help. I'm looking foward to my new phone and ditching the sidekick.

Shouldn't be a problem. Your contacts will not come from your SIM card. You'll want to install Palm Desktop (which I assume he's including) and then enter your contacts. Each time you sync between your desktop PC and the Treo, it wil synchronize your contacts. We had someone here that recently activated T-Mobile service. They had some issues with data, but they did resolve them. If you have problems, just come back and I'll help track him down.

Yes, you can get Stereo Headphones. You will not be able to use your Bluetooth headset for music. If you plan on making heavy use of MP3's, you'll want to store them on your SD Card (I assume he's got one already which is good). Also, check out PocketTunes(see review). It's the most popular MP3 player.

With Documents to Go, you can view PowerPoint files. As for Acrobat files, DataViz (the maker of Docs to Go) are working on a plug-in that will enable you to read "raw" acrobat files on your Treo. Right now, I believe you have to convert them on your desktop and then you can read them on your Treo.

We always welcome converts! Good luck and stop back to let us know how you're making out.

Yep it does pdf via acrobat reader, it does power point files, it can be adapted to stereo headphones with an after market adapter, one can be found on this site.

Congratulations.

hey i just switched from a tmobile sidekick 2 to the treo 650,,you wont have any problems believe me..sidekick sucks compared ot the tro650. HOWEVER , as chris said you have to manually program your contacs with palm desktop..not hard...and also call tmobile and tell them that you just got a treo 650 and you need to switch your data plan. its still 19.99 a month for unlimited data usage, but they have to switch the sidekick 2 unlimited data plan to the treo unlimited data plan or your network wont work since the data on your sim now is only applicable with the sidekick 2. The other thing is with the sidekick unlimited you get unlimited text messages. what they did for me was check the past 3 months and see how many texts i used them they gave me a 1000 text message and picture message plan for like 7.99,,its a real good deal..

any questions just lemme know

well made the trade. this thing blows the sidekick away. it was easy to switch over too. all i did was basically change my phone on the tmo site, and turned off the sidekick plan and switched to the unlimited internet plan and got 400 texts for 4.99 a month.

the only thing that bugs me is the cingular crap programs on there that i can't get rid of. i'll try out those different launchers. also, everyone talks about wallpapers with these. how do i use pictures i already have as wallpapers?? and how do i view picture files i put on my sd card?

overall it's great. last user had some programs but all of them were evaluation progs..so i deleted them all. took a while to get my hotsync working but i dl'ed the lastest version and everyhting works fine now.

Those are in the ROM. You'd need a custom ROM to remove them. I wouldn't worry so much about them. If they bother you, check out Shadowmite's ROM's.

Start a new thread for questions you might have and we'll try to help out.
